Do we still need MOTD?
No. It's just the BBC clinging onto It's (long past) reputation as Britain's premier sports broadcaster.

Jobs for the boys company. Serves no purpose in the modern world other than to extort the public.

I thought I was a bit of a luddite but reading some of the comments on this thread, I wonder how some people manage to get through the day.

I loved that tune probably a little melancholy but it has been a constant. Fucking internet I remember listening to the half time scores in the stadium, that simultaneous ripple & spontaneous humour when the rags were losing - it did happen now and again.
It’s just a rush now to have a smoke in one of the traps or be absolutely pig ignorantly rude to a student serving a pint to slowly or a pie to hot
You'll be telling me next that you remember the half time scores being lined up along the pitch perimeter wall next to a letter of the alphabet, meaning you had to buy a programme to get the code to which letter was which game ;-)

Well you could say anything to do with football is a first world problem.
We're talking within the football bubble and it's nothing to do about finding out particular scores. It's about a lot of football fans sharing exactly the same experience together. If you don't get that, you probably don't get the community (away from social media etc) or collective experience football brings
I've never really been bothered about scores other than City, and very rarely concerned with scores in other divisions.

If you genuinely need to hear football scores at 5pm on a Saturday, you probably need to get out of that daft 'bubble' you've got stuck in.

It's 2022, not 1962.

LOL like Liz Truss and the front door, I can't find my way out

First World problems

Anyone genuinely interested would have found out the scores of matches they wanted to know well before 5pm.

Typical BBC fuss over nothing.
Not if you are at the game because there is no internet. Then you rush to the car (AFTER) the game finishes and make it for 5pm to your car. Then you are driving back (4 hours in my case). Hearing the scores in one go is great and what other option have I got? I can't check my phone as I am driving.

MoTD gets 7 million viewers - therefore that is shit loads in the current digital age.

We used to have a 400 mile round trip to home games (now only 160). We never listened to talk shows, just music all the way there and back.

The PL scores are read out over the tannoy after the match. That's all I need to know.
