5 subs from next season

I asked in the match thread, but why was Delap on the bench today? He clearly had no intention of using him, so why even bother?

I’m genuinely impressed we have managed to convince so many of the younger players to sign new contracts. The pathway the management team speak of seems nigh on impossible.

The hope would be 5 subs would ensure more dead rubber final 30 minutes where we can introduce younger players, however from most the selections in earlier cup competitions Pep wants to monitor and maintain the minutes of senior players which is more important than blooding younger talents.

Mcatee has played around 200 minutes in the first team this season, now I can fully grasp that training with our first team will do him good. However nothing beats the intensity of playing in an important league game with a roaring crowd.

Are we meant to think next season this would be any different and after signing a dm, the Argentine st and Haaland we will suddenly play more of the younger attackers we have too.

Love Pep but this is the one thing that grates on me. We need succession planning and I’d rather ship off some of the struggling backup players like Sterling and Jesus and ensure these quality young players feature.

Anyway, this isn’t related too much to the 5 subs apart from what a great chance it could be for younger players normally.

His only chance of getting on is multiple injuries never going to be involved in a tactical switch. This clearly shows the depth of the lie about the strength of the City squad we are fed continuously. We have about 16 or 17 regulars add in a few injuries/suspensions and we are short staffed.

He will not use them anyway
He wouldn’t often use 5 subs. But he would use them more than now. He usually makes 2 more subs when he has 5 available than when he can only use 3. So 3 subs when he would normally only make 1. To some extent he wouldn’t have a choice. If our opponents regularly use 4 or 5 and we only use 1, we’re going to be at a big fitness disadvantage late on in games.

Given that we will have a few players new to Pep's system more sub opportunities might make it easier to get them up to speed.
It might be useful to allow Ortega to get some first team minutes under his belt rather than waiting for domestic cups and chumps league dead rubbers.

My immediate thought is one that’s been made on here. Basically this is going to be a gift to all those teams that come to the Ethiad and time waste from the first minute.

Referees do nothing about to penalise teams that do it expect a perfunctory yellow card on 80 plus mins.

Potential to be as irritating as VAR.
