From the Gareth Barry mould. No frills, just ticks things over.

I thought there was a bit more than that in him to be honest. I said on Rico's thread, you get some youngsters who come in and look focussed on retaining possession and doing the simple things. Which is fine. Others have the confidence to express themselves a bit more and try something different and I think we saw that with some of his more ambitious passes and looking to try and get a goal. A bad touch let him down on his second chance, his first was excellent and just wide unfortunately.

It's good to see young players be given a chance and personally I would have him starting ahead of O'Reilly who has been pretty poor in his recent appearances for us. It's early days so I'd never write any of these kids off, but I don't see what O'Reilly offers more than a bit more physicality than some of our other options.

Thought he was mint last night. He didn't hide from the ball.

I had in my head he was 'just' a 6 but last night showed he has brilliant movement in behind/from deep and also a handy knack of finding space near the area.

He's a brilliant kicker of the ball. A bit of a strange thing to say about a professional but quite a lot aren't. Rico for example I would say has great balance, bravery and low centre of gravity but not a brilliant kicker of the ball.

Reminds me of Tommy Doyle excellent with a dead ball delivery corner and free kicks also takes pens for the eds

Looked good when he came on I thought. Doesn't seem like a kid, has a physical presence about him. Hopefully gets more minutes in this tough little period. I'm not expecting him to fill in for Rodri at his age but I do actually think he has the closest resemblance in style to him in the squad.

Yup. Difficult to judge in 20 mins or so but from what I saw I agree.

I’m very impressed with him, looks like a great prospect.

As for ‘good/bad kicker of the ball’, Sterling must fall into the ‘bad’ group. He regularly makes the oddest contact with the ball, amazed he hasn’t ironed this out of his game.
