A 4m million transfer says he is a talent but only that.

We have just turned down 30m bids for McAtee.
We sold Rogers for less to Middlesbrough.

Btw not saying he'll go the same way, who knows. Swansea seem to be a mess atm etting their captain go to Coventry City.

I agree. In my opinion, peps record with our academy is atrocious, in terms of giving players a proper chance. Obviously they have to be good enough.

If I was an academy player at city I’d use the club as a stepping stone, which in some ways is good as they get a chance at professional football, but in others I think lots of our academy players will be thinking there’s no chance at city or the club I support.

we’re now buying unproven youngsters from other clubs instead. I get it, but why not give players Oreily or Pusey a chance

Can't have gone any worse than £30 million signing Khusanov's debut can it?

I think we’ve come to the point now where no youth player is going to break through as a 6 under Pep.
Yea you even think back to selling Lavia just as he was coming of age. He could have proved handy the past few years? And probably for the next 15 years as he's only 21!

We can't deny that we've been short sighted at times, and it does seem like that in Wright's case he hasn't been given a chance at all despite looking good in his cameos and seemingly being a very good profile for a position we have been absolutely desperate to get someone in. You never know he might have been a revelation and we wouldn't have lost all those games? Can't have got any worse at times surely?

Sounds like he won’t sign a new contract and that’s done for him this season.

Selling Lavia and buying Phillips looks dreadful in hindsight, if you negate the fact Lavia is a sick note that’s only played about 40 PL games since he left.

He's played 11 times for Chelsea in the time he's been there, mostly out injured. So wouldn't have been very handy for us at all. I hope it works out for him better in the future but not really one we should regret losing at this stage.

I think most of those were for struggling Southampton. He's played 11 times in over one and a half seasons at Chelsea.

The truly exceptional one's we keep, the rest we sell with buyback/cut of transfers ect, of course we will make mistakes, we don't have a crystal ball, there is no guarantee with young players, we have to trust in what we do based on the knowledge of the people that see the younger players everyday, we give them the best chance to make a decent career in the game, every time we sell a young player we get blue moon experts telling us how pep gets it wrong, our model has brought in millions to help us be probably one of the best teams ever and always have plenty of money to improve the first team squad
Good post. According to bluebrain whose detailed analysis is on the internet, since Pep took over we have made c£400m from academy or young player sales.
Our owners and Pep have always said that the aim was to get four of this category of player into the first team squad so that appears to be working.
Would anyone on this thread be happier if we had given more chance to players in our our own youth system and won less trophy’s?
If I was a promising youngster, their parent or agent I would jump at the chance of joining us as our track record of developing youth is second to none.
