Wow that’s cheap. Pep clearly doesn’t rate him which I’m surprised at as he always looked good to me

Could be a good move for him though.

How does the 1st page of this thread reconcile with his rapid exit and a piss poor transfer fee?

Perhaps he's looked at Peps other training cones on the bench and told his agent to get him the fuck out ASAP?

He should do well and maybe a stepping stone for 18 months time and a top level move.

The system has so many good players, it’s the huge step of reaching the 1st team that is like climbing a mountain.

Wouldn't sign the contract that was offered. So I guess little option but for City to sell if they wouldn't up it the amount.
To be fair I don’t know why he would sign it. His choice was no first team football or endless loans.

And even if he did get a chance, we’d probably just buy a ready made midfielder anyway. It’s becoming impossible for any academy player to make it.

Obviously they have to be amazing and a top talent and wright might not have been.

No idea how good this lad could have been….but never got a chance with Pep.

In the appearances he made for the first team he looked more then decent…..it really doesn’t give any encouragement to any of the young players.
I think we’ve come to the point now where no youth player is going to break through as a 6 under Pep.

I agree. In my opinion, peps record with our academy is atrocious, in terms of giving players a proper chance. Obviously they have to be good enough.

If I was an academy player at city I’d use the club as a stepping stone, which in some ways is good as they get a chance at professional football, but in others I think lots of our academy players will be thinking there’s no chance at city or the club I support.

we’re now buying unproven youngsters from other clubs instead. I get it, but why not give players Oreily or Pusey a chance

Looks like it……the one thing that really has pissed me off about Pep is his treatment of younger players.

I wouldn’t swap the last nine years but have lots of regrets about some of the players we have let go.

Gundogan was brilliant 2 years ago but no way better than the likes of McAtee, O’Reilly and Wright at the moment and we will probably lose all 3 for next to nothing.

It’s the price of chasing every single trophy though.

Those 3 could have all broken through and become stars, but we didn’t win
the league last season.

Pep could have given them more minutes though, especially this season.

He never got much of a chance, but I have to believe that since Pep sees him in training, he has a better view of his ability and doesn't think he is ready.

Also, Pep probably can only give one of he or Nico O Reilly the "youth" minutes, and I personally would prefer Nico O Reilly since he can play LB, CDM, CM, ST, and is built for the prem. Let's hope Nico plays against Leyton Orient.

Get your career started Jacob, and make a name for yourself.

A 4m million transfer says he is a talent but only that.

We have just turned down 30m bids for McAtee.

The truly exceptional one's we keep, the rest we sell with buyback/cut of transfers ect, of course we will make mistakes, we don't have a crystal ball, there is no guarantee with young players, we have to trust in what we do based on the knowledge of the people that see the younger players everyday, we give them the best chance to make a decent career in the game, every time we sell a young player we get blue moon experts telling us how pep gets it wrong, our model has brought in millions to help us be probably one of the best teams ever and always have plenty of money to improve the first team squad

It's a bit strange isn't it though. We let Tommy Doyle go for £5m and to me he looks as much a decent PL player as McAtee is. That's arguable, I know, but we could have got more, but stuck on low clauses. That probably guaranteed him the move.

Might be similar with Swansea - I expect they didn't have much to spend, but hopefully we've got Jacob a move where he'll be first choice and play regularly. If he rips it up, I guess he could end up back here one day. Possibly.

I think that's it exactly, we're never going to rely entirely on a youth player, especially at the number 6 position. Big sell-on & low buy-back clauses.
