59 years ago - Bert Trautmann's testimonial

I was there that night, never been so scared before the match. Does anybody remember the Healds Milk Carton vending machines outside grocers shops, there was one outside the shop opposite the Parkside pub next to Maine Road. In Wythenshawe we discovered that instead of sixpences we could use metal washers to get the drinks out for nothing. I was caught repeatedly trying to do this outside Maine Road. I'm 75 now so I too have witnessed half our history. Thank you for that fact. Come on City.
Plod are on their way…

Pretty sure this was my first match, very wet, scoreboard end, I was 7… the next was Leeds away.. don’t remember owt about the game though.
Yep. A very wet scoreboard end. No shelter apart from huddled together as part of a close packed crowd.

As most have said, where's the time gone?

That day, Bert's farewell, was also the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. It still is.

A few minutes to go Bert threw the ball out to him, he turned back and lobbed it over Berts head.

It’s the yewnitid way !!
