The thing is, we should be able to play him twice in a week.

I love the guy, he's really won me over this season and has excelled - and been a defensive breath of fresh air to the liability who left in January - but his injury problems have always been there. To the point I was surprised we'd got so many weeks/months out of him week in, week out.
His injury problems have not always been there. At Brighton he had one injury in 3 full seasons.

He had a significant hamstring injury for us, in the 20/21 season, (I copied a graphic of above), where he was rushed back and it went again.

I fear we have risked that again. He should have been given more time to heal and recover. We should have learnt from rushing him back last time, hamstring injuries can easily recur if not fully recovered. We can play him twice a week no problem, but when he's fully recovered.

He's got a brilliant attitude and he's been very patient sitting it out on our bench, for long periods, waiting for his chance.

Was incredibly reckless playing him twice in 4 days right after the quickest return from a hamstring injury I’ve ever seen.
Spot on comment. Our physio team seem to have done a brilliant job this season, keeping the squad fit, probably just this one blip, bringing him back too early!

They did it for the right reasons. We wanted him fit and firing for Real Madrid and 60mins under his belt was probably the aim. Rather that than him play at the Bernabeu and him get an issue as someone is bearing down on goal. Wrap him up and hopefully get him back soon, and take our time with him this time around.

We're unlikely to play the Stones RB/DM role against Madrid in the away leg at least so Walker at RB and Akanji and LB works fine. They've got the pace to hopefully stop Vinicius and Rodrygo.
