Still a handy player to have around but he is not quite a regular for me. Even with his current form.

Ill have to be shown it again. I'm not going to just assume it. For now, it's Ake and somebody for me. That somebody could be Dias, Stones, Phillips, Laporte when healthy.

Be interested to see Stones partner Ake against Newcastle.
 
Seems a decent lad. Gives his all but he just seems to struggle to stay fit and it’s never clear how he gets hurt.

I think he did it making that superb last gasp clearance in the 6 yd box.

I wonder if we’d have looked quite so vulnerable defensively had he stayed on. Hope his injury is just a tweak and he’s back soon as he’s been our best defender for several months now.

I'm afraid it is starting to look like that. By God but it's incredible how big an injury problem we've had with our central defenders over the last seven years or so. Stones has spent a lot of time injured, so has Aké. If Liverpool had Van Dijk out as much as this they'd be screwed (as they were two seasons back).
I don't have Aké behind Stones and Laporte as a defender, frankly. When he's fit, he's shown enough that he competes on their level. But when he is fit: there's the rub.

Gutted for him, on the ball he's our worst option but off it he's played the best of all of our CBs from his run in the side last season into this. He's got that extra bit of pace to deal with things and is a beast in the air as well.

I'm hopeful he isn't out for long, we need him at the moment with Laporte still working his way back.

Was playing very well but that’s also too short a timeframe to really judge. He got a couple of great blocks or clearances in against Newcastle fair play to him but i don’t think there is much doubt that even if he’d stayed on Newcastle were scoring at least a couple in that match.

Given that the vast majority of the problems were coming down the left, from Saint-Maximin, yes, I'm inclined to agree. He wasn't a player that Aké would have been dealing with. I'd like to be wrong but I suspect that Newcastle played their game of the season.
