6 Nations 2014

England just need to play with the same intensity and mentality. It is a tougher championship for England in general because all the other teams want to beat us in particular and they raise their game that extra ten percent. It sounds big headed and arrogant but the truth is we are the biggest scalp for the other sides in the competition. Italy will give us a tough game and we need to iron out the little errors from last weekend like isolated running - but Wales were good in the ruck and Italy will not be on that level. Get the basics right with good forward play and who knows - whilst we are reliant on the France v Ireland game I think that the French with a slim opportunity themselves and in front of a home crown, will give Ireland a good game. Still think Ireland will win it.

Ireland have been touted as the best team in the Championship but I don't buy that at all, England barring naïve spells of 5 minutes at the start and finish of their game with France would be on for and deserve to win the Slam this year. I think England have played the better rugby and showed their fighting spirit against both Ireland and Wales.
I think the French will beat the Irish and I also think we will beat Italy comfortably after a tough 20 minute battle to start with.
Hoping I will be watching us lift the title this year and that will go some way to erasing the misery I was subjected to in Wales last year.

Blue may the best team win. I wouldnt say you were the best team. You had Ireland and Wales at home if you are ever going to win a Slam is when you play Ireland and Wales home. IF your going to Wales and Ireland and with home advantage you wont win. Dont think you are the best team in the championship. Just think Ireland didnt go for it earlier in that England game. I thought it would be a hard championship for any team to win. Ireland are going in the right direction new manager we got our scrum sorted our backs are strong. The only thing thats a worry is who is going to be our long term centers for next year and the World Cup. Some strong main starters missing out with injuries to the backs and Sean O Brien too will all add to the squad next year too. Love to see Ireland win in Paris hard game but if we play like we have most of the tournament we will get a result.

You have every chance of a result in France mate, I certainly wouldn't back against you, I just think the French have some pride to regain and with a slim chance of the title they could just put in a performance to outwit Ireland. As I have said on here, if the Irish do beat France they will deserve to win the title on balance. As you say, may the best team win, I'm excited about the England team, they are young and still learning but I think they will be ready come the world cup next year. As we both know, BOD is irreplaceable and arguably the best Centre of all time given the amount of tests he has played at the top level compared to some of the other great players vying for that accolade. Good luck to you bud.

Sadly, I don't expect Ireland to win in France. Then again, I never do!
That said, if it happens and England do the business, as expected v Italy, then I think England should be awarded the championship - because they won the head to head between the two teams. As it stands the title will possibly be awarded on the basis of who gave the weakest team(s) the biggest hiding, rather than the winner's performance against the next strongest side.

I made the same argument, all those years ago, when Ireland similarly lost out on the title. That was despite being level on points after beating England in the last game of the season (rearranged because of foot & mouth, if you recall).

I see no reason to change my mind just because the shoe is on the other foot now. It's a rule that's long overdue for a change.

That said, if Ireland do win the title, I'm sure I'll manage to pull through St Patrick's weekend, without too much of a guilt complex about it. :-)

PS: On paper, Wales oughta stuff the Scots but you know what? It might not go according to script, that one...

Ireland but only just. 22-20 up in France with just over a minute to go and France go over for a try. But it's not given for a forward pass. Then France get the ball back with just seconds to go, right in front of the posts, and don't go for a drop goal. Instead they try to run it and give a foul away just over the 80 minute mark.

6 Nations Champions. How nice that is to say even if Sexton threw away easy points. A great great great win against France who showed up and played there best game my heads already sore it will be worst come the morning

Credit where credit's due; congratulations to the Irish on winning the six nations. But by fuck, they almost blew it. International players at that level should have been able to complete what was, by their standards, a relatively simple pass without it going forward. And then France not opting for a drop goal attempt at the death after a poor clearing kick by Kearney. Can't see any of the Northern hemisphere sides winning the world cup next year.

I flicked it on at half time between the Villa/Chelsea game to see a French player with blood pouring from a cut on his face but carried on playing. Why is this allowed in rugby yet in football a far less contact sport any blood on show and your off.
