what's good for the team is getting rid of a disruptive player who hasn't shown a hint of decent form for 10 months or more

history shows the managers that have the balls to make decisions like this are rarely proven wrong
 
We are regressing imo. Still no fullback and now we‘re helping out another club that could beat us in the UCL.
When we get an injury and have no left back or Cancelo sticks a fantastic cross in against us in the champions league will Pep still tell us this is the right decision

Why is it mental.

It's been widely reported he's unhappy with his playing time, had a fallout with Pep and wanted to move.

The club have got rid of a player who doesn't want to be here. It's better he's gone rather than stinking the place out for the next 4 months.

How is it not good for the team to weed out the main guy that brings the dressing room down? This will always be a good thing, replacement or no replacement.
