He needs resting. The irony is that he would likely have been first sub today with Gomez on, so at least the upside is that Cancelo got extra time off the pitch. The downside is that the other players again had to expend much more energy compensating for an early sending off from a makeshift left back, which is no coincidence.

He’s making more mistakes because he’s simply been asked to play too much, and that’s down to our inability to land an established left back in the summer. It’s a mistake that’s increasingly taking its toll on everyone.

I don't get people here. Yes, Ake made a mistake with the long ball, BUT Cancelo's is 100 times worse. As a defender you know that if you make contact that will be a penalty(which is a better chance that what Fulham's player had) + a red card. He has like 3 seconds to make a correct decision and still chooses by far the worst. Imagine that in a QF, SF, F or league deciding game against an elite team and it's game over.

Not a straight red for me , will we appeal ?
He didn't make any attempt for the ball so we've no chance of a successful appeal. By the letter of the law it's a sending off. The rule is shit. A penalty should be enough of a punishment. You're not stopping a goalscoreing attempt - because it's a penalty!!!

Am worried when he is anywhere near our area.

Good going forward but a potential disaster when defending imo.

Do we think we’ll get another instagram apology about how he’ll learn from this and never make the same a mistake again or is that only reserved for fuck ups that cost us games?

We got the result but the fuck up today and the debacle at Liverpool should mean a bit of time out of the starting line up on top of whatever he gets for todays sending off
replaced by.. who exactly? You have 2 senior fullbacks, one of them injured, and a bunch of kids, for 2 positions.

Should never be the last man just because he can’t and doesn’t know how to tackle

Will it be a 1 match ban or 3, straight red but not for violent conduct so I am hoping just the 1 match.

1 game for professional foul straight red right? So is that game the carabao?

He needs a couple of games out but so thin in that position we can’t do it right now

He’s just not a defender.

He doesn’t lie about it, he’s got the number 7 on his back. Pep knows he’s not a defender, we’re good enough it doesn’t cost us that much.

He can’t read the game, whenever a ball goes over his head he’s a mess (see the Leeds red card), he’s pretty weak, which is why Salah manhandled him and why he had to use a ridiculous amount of force to go shoulder to shoulder today, and what separates him from Zinchenko is he’s just not interested in defending or learning to defend.

He is pretty good at making tackles and interceptions in midfield because he comes in as an extra man, but ultimately with Cancelo on the pitch we defend with 3 players and we just have to accept that as long as Pep continues to play him.

The only excuse I have for Joao is Akanji leaving his right CB position and leaves free space for the Fulham player.

Joao was the poor sod who tried to intervene but it was too harsh. He should be experienced enough but as we see in his body language walking off he really thought he wasn't at fault. Must be red, as the rules are now.

Pep can tell him 1000 times, Joao will do the same next time, it's his rash personality.

Saying as he knows nothing about defending I doubt he knows that rule either.
