7 | Omar Marmoush - 2025/26

I do, too, but when? As long as Haaland is fit, he'll start, and even when he's poor, Pep still doesn't take him off more times than not. I don't see how he remains happy with his minutes given the circumstances. I hope I'm wrong.
Its a long season. Think his best role is with haaland. Either on the left or behind. Doku and Phil have been really good so let's see. Can't play him like haaland when he replaces him. Would be better in a f9 role or a deeper role when playing that role, I think.

All those goals?
You think HIS goals gave us CL this season?
3/7 came in one match against newcastle
Yes a hattrick in 4-0 win which won us the game and other crucial goals, who knows how things would've went if he didn't score them, I'm not saying he's been brilliant but he needs more chances to make an impact, hopefully they'll come after AFCON.

I agree that he's best alongside another striker, but we're open enough as it is without sacrificing a midfielder to let Marmoush play alongside Haaland. Not to mention we've scored more goals than anyone in the league as is. We'll see how it goes.

Part of it as lack of gametime and his form, and the other part is just poor sub option from Pep.

He is Haalands backup, yet we lump the ball up to him like he is Haaland and has a chance to win it.

He is not as fast as Haaland or as strong, he needs passes played through on the ground.

He would have looked better in Dokus role.
I actually disagree with this. His touch it pretty poor so it's going to bounce off him playing into him. He needs balls over the top.

Tbh think he's a decent player just not suited to being a backup 9, a 10 or a winger. He's a support striker and we don't play with one of those.

Im not sure how your expecting him to win in balls over the top when he has neither strength, speed or a first touch like you said.

His best chance is balls on the ground he can run into with minimal effort so he can bang it in.

And I agree as I said he isnt a lone 9, the 4222 last season suited him perfectly.

He is quite fast though from what I've seen?

And he has always been a willing runner into the channels. Thought he came to us with that kind of reputation but I could be mistaken

Agree that formation would suit him

I think he’ll be a shock exit in the summer. Playing him always feels like he’s being shoehorned in, he’ll eventually reach a point where he realises he has to make a big decision. It’s the Jesus/Alvarez situation again, and will always be that way whilst Haaland is here.

Don’t think theres a conspiracy here. He’s the understudy for erl and Erl will play every game unless he’s injured or something e can afford to rest him (hasn’t happened much as we’re on a tightrope all the time). He’s not a winger or a midfielder so won’t perform well in those roles.

Shame as I like him and hes got one hell of a strike in him but he doesn’t fit into the team at the moment
He's not even a pure 9, but that is his best position in our current setup.

Yep we went through Balotelli/ Dzeko/ Negredo/ Bony/ Jesus/ Alvarez. (Did I miss anyone??) Very good but not as good as Kun Aguero & Erling Haaland.

It is what it is.. you hope to get 2 seasons out of them minimum but no one's gonna be happy being backup for an entire career!

It's not even 2 seasons just 1/2 a season for him if that's the case. This season he's been invisible (injuries etc) now off to Afcon with his mate Salah. So we will have to make do if Haaland gets injured.

I don't think it'll be a shock at this point to be honest

I've been saying for ages I want a Mancini style 4222.

Swap Rodri for Bernardo until he's back.

----------Rodri - Nico G
Cherki---------------------Foden
----Haaland--------Marmoush

But you could even pull the de jong for Dzeko move too when Rodri is back. Bring on Bernardo for Marmoush to sit with Nico G and push Rodri forward. If Reijnders could get his act together you bring on Nico G for Marmoush and push Reijnders up like Yaya of old.

I am beginning to get the impression though Marmoush has a sulk on and Pep is annoyed with him.
Not really. I think he just doesn't want to play him with Erling unless he has to. I think he thinks they both lack a bit of basic technique that helps keep possession. You can afford one because of their massive upside elsewhere. But 2 is rough

Last season when we switched to 4222 it was because Haaland went out injured.

Peps solution of the 4222 was to play with 2 false strikers who never occupied the CBs but instead played around the opposition fullbacks.

So we saw Savinho, Bobb and even McAtee play that RS role, and why I think Pep thinks Haaland can't do it because the role (I think according to Pep) requires more "winger like agile players" whereas Haaland is not that.

So the RS, RAM and RB would make a triangle and combine and do fluid rotations which Haaland isnt really suited for (I partially agree with that).

We still do those fluid triangles in the current 433, but we use a RW, RCM and RB, but keep Haaland as a focal point at the same time

That's why I think we havent seen it, and since Haaland came back we never used it as Pep always wants Haaland as a focal point.

Now if Haaland is injured, why can't we switch to this system? Probably because they dont have the muscle memory for it anymore is my guess or something but I wish we brought it back as a plan B when Haaland is rested.

A perfect example of why you should never sign a one season wonder
We did the same with Bony
He is a decent player and will probably turn out to be decent for another team down the line
But he certainly isn’t good enough to start a big decisive game for City. His level is sub and squad man.
Basically Jovetic level

Genuine question though - what are you basing that on when he gets no minutes to perform?

Pep forced Alvarez into the team on many occasions when he was in the same position behind Haaland, he doesn't seem as eager to do that with Marmoush for whatever reason.

If it doesn't change before the end of the season, could see him wanting out, just like Alvarez did.

Alvarez was/is a much better player than Marmoush. I don’t really see how Marmoush has a future here, if Pep doesn’t think he can play anywhere but striker.
