I feel he is a busted flush. I hate saying it and hope I am proved wrong. His 1 on 1 finishing is none existent, his penalty taking is the same. His first touch has disappeared and his ball control generally seems fckd. He still works hard off the ball and positional sense is great but KDB has stopped looking to pass to him (does he not trust him?).
I have always fort his corner, including complaints to the BBC. In my mind he is now 3 rd choice on either wing, behind even Mahrez FFS.

Stating the bleeding obvious, but give raz a tight situation and he has the skill to make something happen, he works hard to get on the end of tap ins..... but get him in the clear, one on one or taking a penalty , and he he’s too many options, and usually takes the wrong one.i think it’s something in a true striker , and something that can’t be taught.never, ever, ever let him take another penalty

In fairness to him, there cant be many teams in world football with our collective talent, who are as bad as us at this. Sterling is just part of this problem. KDB, Jesus, Mahrez and Sterling are all guilty.

He’s an athlete first - quick, a good engine and agile - and to his credit, I actually think his movement is world class. I noticed, watching the CL final last year - he makes the same runs, and gets into the same areas, as the likes of Neymar (who whether rightly or wrongly is highly rated).

The problem IMHO is, he isn’t a naturally gifted footballer with the ball at his feet. He never looks like he knows exactly where the ball is, without looking down and staring at it. Even when he does know where it is, he doesn’t seem to make good contact with the ball.

His production has always been down to him getting into the right areas at the right time. He’s missed almost as many “big chances” in the PL as he has scored (per opta), because he’s in the right place but isn’t clinical. Even when he scores, it’s often bundled in or scuffed. Obviously he can hit it sweetly now and again - but then again I once saw Danny Mills hit that screamer...

Completely agree that he needs to be on the right wing as a creator, where his pace and movement can be best utilised, rather than in the box. Granted we need a striker on the pitch for that to happen - drop the money in Dortmund’s lap and bag Haaland.

Why are people criticizing Sterling for yesterday's performance? That doesn't make sense in the slightest. He played 9 minutes and did no good and no bad during that time. You simply can't judge him one way or another based on that cameo.

Sure, he did a stupid penalty miss, but we all know he is shit at penalties. That's why he is not our penalty taker. This penalty miss was totally irrelevant in terms of evaluating Sterling.

Why take it then?

Other than a pathetic penalty.....Who is judging him on the other 10 mins?

The evaluations are based on his contributions over the past 12 months or more, and those of us that aren't in the blue tinted deluded camp, can see his performances have been well below par.

That's fair, but for some reason bunch of people came here yesterday critcizing him literally for yesterday's performance. That's what doesn't make sense in the slightest.
