He seems to have picked up a bad habit from England duty of being stood still when he gets the ball, and then looking to take on a defender from a standing start. At his best he is on the move and doing things quickly.

A few times already this season he’s lost the ball taking too much time in a static position, almost like he expects defenders to give him more respect/time/space than they are. Watching him for England the defenders often do back off but this doesn’t happen as much in the Premier League.

I consider him to be amongst the best players in the world if you ignore his inability to kick the ball, so it’s frustrating he can’t seem to get his game going at the moment. When he’s on form not many give fullbacks a harder game.

…control the ball, or shoot the ball!

His one quality contribution was the slide rule pass for Fernandinho to score…which he didn’t!

However, he looks bereft of self-belief. Even commentators are noticing that when he plays on instinct, the results are far better than when he has to think about his next pass or move.

His first touch let him down again, which makes him look bang average in a team of ball killers like Bernie, Jack, Phil, KDB and FFS.

The club need to be brave in his contract negotiations. He has contributed an awful to city and was worth the transfer fee + wages but now he has lost something. Sterling looks lost now he has nothing to prove. The raz we knew that ripped it up had a point to prove. This version has an OBE & the press are scared to critique…woke innit!

So he is either running down his contract or has lost his edge. What we are seeing now is a player who has lost his appetite. It can happen unfortunately.
