737-8 max plane goes down (2018) - new not Max crash Indonesia

ChicagoBlue,

Quick question I think...

In a former life the company I worked for a company that had a private plane that we would use to visit customers. The pilot was our VP of Sales that had something like 20,000 hours of flight time with a major American commercial carrier. Since the “national” accounts were my responsibility I would travel with him alone on the plane quite frequently.

Several times he let me take the yoke and fly the plane. It was always after we reached cruising altitude and before we would begin our decent.

The company we worked for supplied GPS for small aircraft so I was somewhat knowledgeable on the general flight indicators.

My question...

Was what he did illegal?
I'm not saying what he did was illegal, but every time I've taken control of an aircraft it has always been with a a qualified flight instructor.

Not that I would use your services again Michael after your months of fookwittery with customer base, but it transpires my pals down at TUI also use this aborition of aviatorial trickery, so my arse has every right to engage in spasmodial twitches until the powers that be convince me I wont be spiralling into a hillside any time soon.

And for that reason, being the undulating safety aficionado of breath-ability that I am, shall simply wing it on a prayer and wait and see, until we witness it's divine right and ability to stay aloft for a season or more. What does everyone think concerning the Max and do we need a poll thread to gauge travelers opinions. Jet2 have no use of it, so I have options should they be called into play. Pilots to thread please, pilots to thread for snippets of reassurance!

Won't catch me going on one for quite a while,I'll let them be going around for a few years first, shit flyer me,even though I've been on loads

I agree with the comments about not flying on it. As far as I know (i stand to be corrected) the design is fundamentaly flawed and has dangerous flight characteristics. To me it should never fly again and I will actively avoid flying on it no matter what the sly rebranding exercise calls it now.

The plane is one big design flaw all because Airbus had a new more efficient plane.

Would logic suggest that it is now safer (with the massive scrutiny) than most new planes?

There’s a website that tells you what plane you will be on before you fly , i’ve a holiday booked for June , if they use this plane i’ll Cancel , the documentary on these planes was shocking , they fucked up the design & have tried to correct it with computers.

Ryan Air bloke seems to like that the new POTUS is Irish... His own words not mine, I would rather pay the extra than fly on his "cut price" airline. Hope he goes out of business.

Note Ryanair are having the plane rebranded on the nose as 737-8200. They refuse to discuss it as the MAX.

It is not possible to scrutinise out fundamental design flaws. If the airline industry was not so greedy then perhaps 346 people would still be alive today

you're right of course - but we're our own worst enemies by expecting a flight to Spain to cost £9.99. It clearly costs more than that so something has to give

I work in the industry and have been effected by the 737 max 8 , Boeing have been put under the aerospace microscope massively, they are one of the us’s flagship companies . I reckon this will be one of the safest aircraft in service.
Would I fly on one yes I would.

What do you reckon to this virtually brand new one falling out the sky so close to take off then. I'd have thought at 4000ft a faulty altimeter might be overcome by a traditional look out the window for signs of the ground?
