737-8 max plane goes down (2018) - new not Max crash Indonesia

up until a few years ago me and a few other blokes would go to benidorm for the away derby and one of the lads worked on aircraft maintenance and he was absolutely terrified of flying, he said you would be as well if you saw some of the stuff that goes on and some of the dick heads doing it
 
Kinda mad that major airlines are still flying around in planes designed 30-40 years ago. Imagine everyone still driving around in cars from that long ago.

They were designed a lot longer ago than that!

It was 27 years old. Seems like a catastrophic failure as there was no Mayday call and the descent rate was +30000 ft/minute at the end. A slight possibility of pilot suicide as the wreckage is in a small area indicative of a dive. This type had a couple of crashes 20+ years ago with a rudder problem that a fix had since been ordered and hence rectified on remaining airframes. It looks like the aircraft involved came back into service in mid December after a period of storage due to Covid.

The oldest B777 flying was delivered in the same year as the B737 that crashed today and you probably think the B777 as modern.

No, all of the B757s have been retired. Oldest aircraft in their fleet is around 22 years old with many more having been delivered new in the 3 to 5 years.
 
Another Boeing 737 crash in Indonesia. Just after take-off. Really awful.

RIP to the passengers and the crew.

It really doesn't help fearful flyers like me. I find it hard to believe these things happen nowadays with such state-of-the-art technology.

The Boeing 737-500, a Sriwijaya Air flight, had taken off from Jakarta, the capital. Officials said they found body parts and possibly part of the wreckage.

This happened on Saturday.
Indonesia has a very poor air safety record.
