It's good to see him get a run out. Even for Marmoush goal he was in the box causing issues. We need to ease him into the team handling his minutes. Would I have him starting the derby not sure. See how he gets on he will need someone ahead of him to help him defensively in that game as he won't have it easy in the next game

Yeah this lad looks excellent. Again I’ve been impressed often when I’ve seen him. Surely could have solved some problems for us over the season.

Looks really good nice to have an academy imprint now in the first team with: Foden, Rico, Bobb, McAtee and now O’Reilly all permanent members.

I just don't get why we haven't used him more often and it's baffling to me that we were (supposedly) prepared to let him leave!
Just because Chelsea were (supposedly) interested, doesn't mean we were willing to let him go.

He was injured for a lot of last season was he not? The season before he played mainly U18's football. There's no way Pep is throwing him in from the start of this season, especially after it turned to shit and breaking the lad. He's been perfectly managed as far as I'm concerned.

A future legend in the making.

I don’t understand why he hasn’t played more this season. Same with Mcatee

We’re spending huge amounts of money when I think we might already have the talent in the academy

McAtee is an easy explanation, when he has played, he's failed to impress.

O'Reilly has been (rightfully) eased in.

Accountants run the club/business.

Sell academy = pure accounting profit.
Buy player = amortised cost over life of contract.
Sell £50m of academy every year.
For the £50m/year you can amortise maybe 3 or 4 top players and still be profitable.

The right answer is keep 1 or 2 or 3 per year if they are good enough instead of buying.
Keeping academy like Delap is always a gamble compared to a relatively safe purchase like Marmoush.

Unbothered, Unfazed and dealt with everything he needed to easily. (Leicester were garbage though) but cant ask for more from the lad.

Delap and Marmoush are very different players, Marmoush can play with Haaland, Delap couldn't and would never be anything but a Haaland back up,, maybe not even that, he had no reason to stay . Nothing to do with accountants. Do you really think Pep and Txiki would allow accountants to pick and choose which academy players stay with the team and which are moved on.

I don’t agree. He’s played well in multiple games, scored and affected the game. Oreily has also struggled at times, as you’d expect any young player

Don’t want to derail the thread.

Not a lb but looks so comfortable there. That in itself shows the lad has something. Compare with Nunes who people defend on the grounds he’s not a rb. Oreilly is clearly a proper talent Nunes is not.

O'Reilly oozes class. His touch is smooth and he glides with the ball, yet is also tall, powerful and quick.

His use of possession is excellent and he plays with a bit of purpose.

One moment which stood out to me was his shot with the outside of the foot in the second half. It was so calm and silky and would've been superb. He's got huge potential and can play pretty much any position.
