Not his night. Needlessly gave the ball away multiple times overplaying. When he did the same thing twice in a couple of minutes, leading to good chances, Pep was raging and immediately gave him the curly finger

I do hope Pep doesn’t banish him after tonight. We’ve seen him go through spells with players in the past then after their first ‘dodgy’ performance, they’re gone for a few games.

Poor tonight. No hiding from it, getting the basics wrong too often. Will do him good in the long run though having a crash back down to earth after nothing but positive impacts will help him. Shows him the levels and consistency he needs to find every week.

I saw something different than most. I think today's performance actually suggests strongly that he might in fact be best at left back.

Is it any surprise that the first game he plays with Doku ( who plays wide and holds the line) is the game where he plays his worst game?

I think he is best when he has the line and can make outside runs. He is not as effective inverting into midfield. He found himself too close to Gundogan often and doesn't play the intricate short passing as well as say Rico.

He is better when his athleticism, speed, dribble are more in play. Perhaps in the future he may play CM, but I dont see it in him at the moment. At least bot at a top club.

Why did he struggle, also Nunes had a shit game compared to recent weeks, what changed?
I think he struggled coz he mostly played as an inverted fullback which should be his wheelhouse as many say he is really a midfielder. But in reality, he struggles there and makes more mistakes.

Nunes on the other hand was poorer in possession and decision making.

The inclusion of Doku as a starter ( deserved as it may have been) changed some of the dynamics. He took up the positions Nico normally takes, and Marmoush waa moved to the left. Whee he wasn't in sync with with Nunes.

Nico and Gundo got into each others way often.

Expected to have the occasional poor game. Lineup didn't help him but he also made some poor decisions. No big deal though, probably learn more from that anyway

Nunes was terrible last night. The amount of times he put the ball into touch or didn't find a city player with his pass was ridiculous.

Yep. Even the passes that he completed were pretty terrible. Gave Marmoush some awful passes in the first half that were difficult to control or hospital passes.

Defensively vulnerable. He is impressive offensively, yes, but defensively he is not at the right level. Against Palace, we could have been 3 or 4 down and they were targeting him relentlessly. Most teams do.

I think you build a solid team from the back, and despite our good record recently, we have conceded about 8 shots in the post/bar in the last 4 games.

Time to play some actual defenders at the back. Nico can be given a chance in midfield, especially when we're winning.
They should be targeting Matues Nunes.

Got caught a few times in possession last night which is most likely why Pep subbed him. I'm sure he will be frustrated with that performance & no doubt Pep will leave him out next game now that Akanji is fit. There's no doubt he's going to be a quality player & I expect him to come back stronger.
