8 second rule

What sort of era are we talking about when this directive was given?

Usually when they announce an initiative to clamp down on a certain law, you at least notice it for the first few weeks.

I can’t recall seeing a free kick being given for this for decades.
It was a while ago granted. It was in pl guidance/interpretations which they hand out at the start of the season. It's coming up to 9 years since I was involved but have checked with someone from the fa training department and they still advise this

I actually asked a current Premier League referee a couple of years ago, why it was a law of the game that was so universally completely ignored?

His answer was something along the lines of… I’ve no idea but I’ve never seen one given and I don’t particularly want the shit that will come to a referee who suddenly decides to give one.

But the goalie can stay on pitch when he “recovers” from treatment whereas outfielders have to go off for 30 seconds
Easy that one. Allow infinite and immediate goalkeeper substitutions to maintain play rhythm. In fact have the backup keeper stationed behind the goal thru out the match. Once david raya realises that his theatrics are pointless that will stop. No team wants their inferior keeper in the net for any amount of time.
And before any of you chime in with penalty keeper substitution abuse, I say that's a small price to pay to nullify Raya and arsenals shithousery in general. You want the best performers on the field anyway for entertainment value.

It’s not this that’s really a problem.
It’s goalkicks, throw-ins, free kicks and corners that are the big issue.
Plus, players just going down when there’s nowt up with them and the ref stopping the game.

There are teams who take over a minute to take dead balls. There are teams who have multiple players have a sit down during the game so the rest of their team can have a forced timeout on the touch line.

Is there any wonder the ball is in-play for around 50 minutes for many games when we have teams doing that shite?

There should be a shot clock introduced for those more than this.

Having thought about this does it actually prevent or stop anything. Goalkeepers go down injured to waste time, that wont be stopped. And wasting time at goal kicks. That wont be stopped.Bit pointless as the 6 second rule that everyone forgot even existed.

Referees will punish goalkeepers holding on to the ball for more than eight seconds by awarding a corner to the opposition.

That's us fucked them :}-
New tactics would be to give us a corner so after an awful delivery, the team can counter attack us.
Hopefully we get in a much needed new set piece coach this summer.

We didn’t need a new rule, we just needed the existing one to be enforced.
It’s like most of the new rules, like going to the referee, and other forms of dissent etc. If the referee’s just used existing rules to punish the players, they wouldn’t need a new rules which is just the existing rule to be made.
Also like most of the new rules, you’ll never see the likes of Liverpool or Arsenal punished for it, but if someone like Wolves do it, unholy hell will be unleashed.

I can't wait for this rule:

Arsenal away.

1-1

Erling scores 89th minute to equalise.

Before that the Arsenal keeper breaks this rule numerous times time wasting.

Obligatory 10 mins of injury time. Our keeper plucks a ball out of the air one final arse attack.

Ref blows for corner saying he's took the piss. Tarquins score their usual rugby scrum winning goal.

A few season ago they said a player holding a shirt was automatic yellow card now it permissible to hold a shirt as long it’s not too long If they introduced proper time keeping then stupid ideas like this wouldn’t be required

Well something needed to change so as long as it is not abandoned after 2 weeks it would be good. They also need to bring in the taking throws from the right place. Teams steal loads of distance on their throws, I think it was the Newcastle game at the weekend, Trippier tried to take a throw 10m further forward than where it went out, the ref told him to go back (fair play) so he did, then he basically "pretended" to throw the ball, change the angle and kept on moving forward, until he was in the place the ref told him to move back from (ref did nothing). I think they should bring in a rule that if you do that then its a throw the other way. Would soon stop that timewasting and cheating

Please clarify......

Is the 8 second rule for goal kicks ??

This is where most time is consistently, deliberately wasted.

IMO, if it is, it should result in an auto booking and a free kick in the centre of the eighteen yard 'D' ie 25 yards from goal.

Thoughts.

Should stop Pickford lying on the ground pulling that stupid face for 30 seconds after he catches it.

Nope, it's for when the ball's actually deemed to still be in play (keepers taking ages to kick it from hand); the goal kick problem isn't a problem (?) as the boys from Stockley Park already have an incorruptible strategy in place for that with their "added time" initiative; you know, the one where 'some teams' get 13 mins of added time and others get 1 (for equal levels of time wasting).

Just like everything these muppets do they've fucked it up before they've even implemented it on the pitch.

VAR - sold to us as being brought in to correct the clear and obvious in-match errors - actually only really employed to 'calculate' IMPOSSIBLE levels of (in)accuracy when deciding offsides.

Farce of an organisation!

No, it doesnt cover the greatest and biggest pain in the arse moments in the game. The keeper will STILL be able to go down with an imaginary injury, will still be able to take the piss when doing goal kicks (The actual problem), the fans will STILL be asking for the ref to intervene, and he will STILL only pathetically yellow card the keeper in the last 10 minutes of a game when its too late.

We all know how to address this, give a card early on and nip it in the bud. Its so fucking obvious yet the people who run football are the more knowledgeable! My arse.

Call me Mr Cynic, but this strikes me as another rule that bent referees will selectively enforce.

I can just see City getting given a corner at 90+5 at Anfield in front of the Kop - not!

Who ever is in goal for City, will be the first keeper to be penalised: Like Sterling at Stoke for holding at a corner. As you say, will slip away and be quietly forgot about. Until, that is, we play the red cartel + 1 and in Europe.
I thought we were one of the first to benefit from that, albeit short, implementation of the rules, away at Stoke when Aguero converted the penalty back in 2016.

incompetence and absence of understanding in plain sight.

If it wasn't so entirely predictable you'd say it couldn't possibly happen.

Fans could produce a schedule of just 10 no cost rule changes/deletions/additions that would improve the game for fans, players & officials in three weeks.

None as bilnd as those who wish not to sea !!

Won’t goalies just be told to fake injury to get around this?

Can well imagine most managers if protecting a one goal lead with not long to go will tell their keeper to roll around for a minute or two, physios on while they just give the twat a swig of water.
