He’s actually really good isn’t he…

The clue was when Pep put him in midfield for a sub appearance.

Pep doesn’t put people in midfield unless he thinks they’re really good, even Foden isn’t trusted with playing 8 yet. Putting a 17 year old there in a league game in his 2nd or 3rd appearance for the club, even just for 10 minutes was a sign of how highly Pep rates him.

Hopefully we’ll get a few decent cup draws and he might even find himself starting a couple of league games if the World Cup lads get really tired late on in the season.

Said pre match, there's a few that get a chance to impress this week with today and Chelsea and stake a claim for more involvement post world cup, well that's how you do just that.

Unlike with Gomez where its clear he's just learning his trade as a fullback, Rico knows how to play his position and where to be at all times. He's been taught peps way from the start of his career, that will be hugely beneficial for him and his career.

Couldn't ask for more from him tonight. I wouldn't go overboard and start clamouring for him to start league games just yet though. His diminutive figure will prevent that from happening regardless of how talented he is. He's going to have to wait until his body fills out before he can think about regular men's football but he can be very happy tonight. The crowd ovation he got as he walked the perimeter after coming off you could see on his face meant the absolute world to him and was a fantastic moment. He was trying to play it cool but couldn't contain a big chufty smile.
