As an inverted fullback he does the role very very well, but as an out and out fullback he will struggle against top wingers. I think at the end of the day he just suits the way Pep wants his fullbacks to play, but at any other top club he could struggle to hit the heights.
He’s not not better than Trent or James as a traditional fullback

As others have said , the timing of his breakthrough is what has helped him

this happens with so many youth players , while others with similar abilities never get the chance

As much as this is true the player has to grab their chance with both hands and that is exactly what he's done.

To show the composure he has against top class players at Bayern, Chelsea and Liverpool is outstanding. We've had players with even more technical ability who haven't made the cut but his sense of positioning and tempo sets him apart from those players. I feel like all his tenacity, neat footwork and other attributes are secondary to that.

The most impressive thing, for me, is that he already knows what he is going to do with the ball before it arrives. Time and time again, the moment the ball arrived at his feet it was gone, and that is demoralising for the opponent applying pressure. It is one of the hallmarks of truly top players and gives them a lot more time on the ball. If he stays patient and humble, taking his chances when they arrive, he could become a true star.

Looked extremely good (a couple of moments aside, which is completely understandable for an 18 year old defender playing against top opposition). Hopefully a lot more to come and he'll soon be keeping Walker on his toes and allowing us to rotate.

having mahrez ahead of him who is defensively passive and Akanji not playing on top form yesterday the lad did great virtually unsupported and with attacking intent.

some daft balls given to him when under pressure and the obvious youthfull excitement aside he did really well

Did he play parts of last nights game at centre back? I thought I saw Stones go Right back when he came on

He moved into midfield as inverted fullback with John being right of back 3.

There’s a good breakdown of his role here.

When we had the ball he was out classic inverted fullback sitting next to Rodri, then when Liverpool had possession he pushed into midfield and beyond to press when the ball was away from Salah, back in the back 4 when the ball was close to Salah so we could double up Aké and Laporte on him.

Interesting how people perceive things differently. I'm not saying your wrong but the way I saw it was that he was looking for the ball and sometimes had players on him when being passed to, but that is part of City's way of playing and the fact that his team mates were willing to play balls to him in this position and the way he dealt with the ball when it arrived showed real quality.
