- Debut for the U18 at 15, at the time our U18 was the best in the country
- Captained the U18 as they won the title in the 21/22 season
- Won the U18 player of the season for 21/22 season

So he had some good hype around him prior to his debut, wasn't some flash in the pan youngster who lucked into getting an opportunity

For the doubters, have some faith in him

Similar journey at international level too. Captain of England u16, progressing to the senior squad with a man of the match debut.
But apparently all these managers are wrong and some blokes on a forum know better..

It’s the huge step up from EDS to the first team that some are questioning. It takes years to adapt and develop and he’s about 18 months into it.

He’ll be fine and people will round to that in their own time.

It took Gundogan 2 years to be universally liked and he was 26!

He barely played for the EDS, handful of appearances. Pretty much went from u18 to training with the first team.

I just meant youth to first team, but your point makes it an even bigger gulf to bridge.

Pep doesn't fast track kid's into the first team squad without reason. I'll leave it at that.

I sometimes think that when new players join the first-team, some fans want them to stand out or they won't be good enough. Just fitting into the team is an incredible achievement, at any age: this is currently the world's best team, and every, single player is technically at the top of their profession. Some players are able to hit the ground running. Some find it a challenge physically. Some find it mentally difficult to deal with - do I fit in? Am I really as good as these players? I don't know of any young player, bar Messi, whose trajectory has been linear. Every young player I can think of has had some spurts of development, some where they seem to have gone backwards a little, and some times when it looks like they have peaked. I have every faith that Rico will be around the team for many years. He will not be able to do what Foden and DeBruyne do, but he will be one of the foundations that knit the whole. These 'winners and givers' are vital in the success of the best sides. To do what Rico has done, at his age, is quite remarkable.
