82 | Rico Lewis - 2024/25

Rico is currently OK. Mostly tidy on the ball. Doesn't present a big scoring threat; passing isn't spectacular. On defense, gets bullied; mostly gets into position, but then fails, somehow, to stop crosses a lot of the time.

He's young, and may develop.

Right now, he's squad-player level.

A lot of this thread is really about either people over-egging Rico's custard and then saying that he is only 19 when his downsides are posted.

He's either a world beater now or he isn't? I agree with you he's a squad player. What puzzles me is that players like Rico have been playing structured football for 10/11 years at the clubs they are at, how long does this "has a lot to learn" take?

Lewis looked a lot better the other night with the game being more open and with broken play where he had more of the pitch in front of him picking the ball up with more forward options to pick out in space. Attacking at a quicker pace as a team makes players think less and act on instincts more, whether that’s releasing a quick pass to someone breaking forward and pushing into space with the ball yourself.

He’s not really got the game to unlock those packed defences really high up the pitch yet. You don’t get that opportunity to act on instincts against packed defences and it’s hard for even seasoned players to work out the space.

Got a hell of a lot to learn as a player but things will come in time.

i still don't get it. love rico to bits but what does he actually offer playing as basically a #10 in possession to warrant us being so exposed on the counter? It just seems like high risk, low reward. It's not his fault but I legitimately don't understand the underlying idea behind it.
