Rico at back 4 makes our defense weaker.
We won the treble playing 4 central defenders with one of them inverting.

So either we have wing backs who can provide an assist or two or we play with strong 4 behind.

If not we are going to lose a lot of games this season no matter how good we play. Defense makes our team winning.

Firstly, we don't have 4 fit out and out defenders, so we can't "play with strong 4 behind".

Seconly, putting the fucking ball in the net at the other end "makes our team winning".

Fans will start turning on him if he doesn't come out of the team soon, which will be sad and unnecessary.
I'm not sure match going fans will actually turn on him, but he's playing far too many games for one so young.

The fact he'll probably play in Greece won't help at all ... he needs a break.

Rico is a work horse just like Bernie. He’s not a defender or creative midfielder.

He’s been asked to do too much & has old players like Gundy & Kova next to him.

Rico is doing well & never stops running for us.

He clearly a talented footballer and intelligent on the pitch but I think his biggest issue is that he doesn't have a clear best position. Think he may well end up being a bit of a Phil neville.

Strange one with him as nobody knows what his best position actually is, the next manager coming in after Pep may not want to play him here there and everywhere.

Bernardo is so much more than a work horse. He is 10x the player of Lewis. Rico isn’t neither a defender nor a midfielder. Tbh I don’t really see the fuss about him.

The zinchenko comparassion I saw someone mention earlier in the thread seems more accurate than Bernardo

Mold him to be a future 8. All that defensive side of the game he learned is still valuable as a hard working 8.

He will never be a city quality defender, he isn't fast or strong/tall enough.

If he had speed, then he could make up for the lack of strength or height.

If he was tall and strong, then you could forgive the lack of speed.

But he has neither, I simply do not know many fullbacks who lacked both and were elite, its quite rare.

Bit harsh mate. He does remind me of cleverly. Neat and tidy, no progressive threat, has a mistake in him and weak and most rival fans I have spoken to can’t understand why he’s getting a game for us, other than that he came up through the academy. Again, much like Cleverly.
Didn’t Cleverley transfer from Bradford City?

Du du duuuuu....

Fernandes and Gvardiol also made a mess of that situation, it wasn't just Rico, why is everyone dumping the blame on him?
Check Josko’s thread. He’s apparently the reason why this is the worst defense in the last 6-7 years. Or all the posts about how we will never win unless we get LB in January.

I just don’t think either one should be judged by yesterday’s game.

and the game was a bigger mess than I thought if Fernandes was there!

That will probably be his best position. However do you see him becoming good enough there for a team pushing to win a title most years? I know the bar has been set high with Silva, KDB and Gundo. That’s what we should be aiming for though and us allowing that level of recruitment to drop recently is a big reason why we’ve seen a big drop in the quality of our play

Will depend on him if he can up his quality in the final 3rd.

He uses his small frame well to keep the ball, turn quickly and make space for himself, makes good decisions quickly, and he is clearly a warrior.

He is kind of like Bernie but without elite ball control.

He can be that 8 who pushes into the pockets, and all you need from that player is to link defense to attack, and hopefullt get some goals or assists, but not rely on it.

He is still super young at 19/20, so has time to get there.

But it wont happen as a defender.

For all the hate Cancelo got, we all knew he was tall, strong and fast enough for a city RB, and was crazy creative.

He was just unfortunately a bit of a baby and made mistakes in defense.
