87 | James McAtee - 2024/25

Not at youth level he wasn’t. I’d argue Mcatee was more highly rated.

The only reason we can see Palmer is class is because he got game time to develop. Mcatee is the same in my opinion.

I don’t think you can really judge how good a young player will be, when they aren’t played at all.

If say Mcatee plays instead of Bernardo do you think we’d be so much worse off?
As someone who watched their games very frequently, in that team, McAtee was the metronome of that team for sure. Palmer had his moments as well. But the former was red hot for a few seasons before they either went on loan or left the club.

However, how a player develops after youth level is not so easy to gauge or ascertain. Nonetheless, we won’t know how good he can be as some need certain variables - team, set up, tactical instructions, and much more - to flourish. Most especially, luck.

However, at this point in time, it really isn’t so straightforward to be as definitive in that assessment re Bernardo as the team as a whole is not in a good place. Nonetheless, it would be nice to see what he could possibly do even in this period. As they say, pressure makes diamonds. We can’t fully tell if he’s a diamond in the rough or a lacklustre stone to gather dust.

funniest thing if McAtee got injured for 2 months Pep would bemoan his injury. but when fit he got 2 minutes of PL football this season.

imagine we had loaned him out to a PL side and he got 2 minutes in 18 rounds of PL. Txiki would be on the phone to complain asking to break up the loan deal.
