87 | James McAtee - 2024/25

LOL

Palmer got tons of chances.. maybe not as many as he hoped but he got chances. His own injuries and lack of versatility got in the way.

There's 2 ways to get into a Pep team.. either be the best in the world at your position or be versatile enough to play multiple positions.

Cole is a 1 position player and there were better players ahead of him while he was here!

Not to turn this into a Palmer thread, but Palmer started 3 league games for City (one as a false nine, the other two as a left winger). How does that constitute getting tons of chances? Imagine if the likes of Gvardiol, Doku or Savinho had only started 3 league games in 3 seasons - would you say that had been given tons of chances?

If that was his conclusion after that Feyenoord disaster, no wonder why he played Gundo all the minutes and lost almost all the games afterwards! Brilliant!
Indeed. Gundogan had scored and went off for a rest at 3-0.

Up until that game, Pep believed that 3-0 was the scoreline when he thought the game was over. Now he can’t even trust that scoreline.

If Pep rewatched that game he should reach the conclusion that Eddie was out of sorts and start Ortega every match. Then we might at least get 1 point from Juve or rag.

But no Pep just saw what he wanted to see and that was the mighty Gundo in his prime.

I’m trying to put myself in Pep’s head and how he makes decisions, not decide what I believe he should have done as that gets us nowhere.

McAtee isn’t trusted and won’t play many minutes in the league unless the injuries get worse.

If he scores a hattrick against Salford, he might get a few more minutes here and there.

So Pep was scarred by that but every loss since which has been at the feet of Gundogan, Bernardo, Grealish, Kovacic, Haaland and the rest is allowed. Brilliant.
Agree.
Also Pep is using those older players, for often 90+ minutes.
The vast majority of other Premier League managers are now using all 5 subs, starting at 60 minutes.
Football this season seems much faster with more teams playing attacking football.
This needs 15 outfield players, which Pep seems not to be adopting.
McAtee (and O'Reilly and Wright) have been ignored on the bench for far too long...

We can't trust any of our players not to commit any brainfarts, any of our players now can fuck it up at any moment except maybe Ake.
