I don't know if we're thinking about separate things but I remember back in the days when Phil wasn't a regular starter Pep said in a press conference that he wants Phil banging on his office door and demanding more chances.

Always thought that was a bit weird. Maybe there's something in there about Pep not being willing to trust these young players until they show enough confidence that they're demanding to start over seasoned pros.

Whatever the thinking, I hope Pep's post match comments weren't just lip service. And I don't think they were.

The way James celebrated that second goal yesterday makes me think he's not given up on his City career yet.

Well it didn’t work for Cole palmer?
He was demanding to play and ended up getting sold.

I think everyone jumping to conclusions here, yes he had a good game yesterday but in other games he’s done nothing to impress me so I think that’s mainly why pep hasn’t been using him up to now.
Let’s also not get carried away that this Leicester city side are poor and championship level

Mcatee wont be going anywhere unless he requests a move.

If the club thinks he has a shot then they wont make the mistakes they did with Palmer but tbh i only think they accepted the offer as it was a very good price and we had a fit Oscar Bobb at the time.

How many minutes has he played this season ?

That was the best half hour of football from any player since October. Unless anyone wants to correct me?

Something weird happened when he came on yesterday; I actually enjoyed watching us play. Felt like deja vu.

He’s barely played and when he has played it’s every 8 weeks or so. How on earth is any young player meant to show consistency or form with no minutes?

A local lad has a brilliant 30 minutes, of course we should get excited, why not? Sounds like your writing it off

I do get Peps comments. He's never been great at integrating youth but this year has been hard.

He doesn't want to put pressure on McAtee and doesn't want to look like he's losing faith with the senior players.

But that glimpse of McAtee yesterday was brilliant, he will feature more now even if its just half an hour sub appearances instead of 1 min.

I think Gundogan returning has impacted on McAtee's game time.

Bringing Gundogan back was a no brainer at the time , however for whatever reason he has been a pale shadow of the player that left us.....not that he is the only one and at some point along with the team I would hope his form returns.

For now I hope Pep moves McAtee above Gundogan (plus 1 or 2 others) in the pecking order and starts to trust him.

He has only had the odd few minutes here and there plus the Feyenoord debacle which was more down to the defence so it is no wonder he has not been able to find any rhythm .

Like all managers Pep has his favourites and they are seemingly treated differently especially compared to some of our home grown players.

I remember the impact that Lewis had on the team when introduced after the World Cup restart and I would hope that McAtee would also spark some enthusiasm, freshness and ability into an ageing, jaded squad.

Give him a run of games Pep because there is definitely a player there with far more technical ability than the likes of Rogers, who at the moment would walk into our team.

Every player has an opportunity to impress the manager when they come on.
Pep has no favourites. He picks based on his expectations.
Somehow, many fans now think they are better judges of players than Pep just because we’re going through a rough patch.
Interesting times.
Would you really want to live in a world where everyone at the game, at home or in the.pub didn't discuss the game, players and tactics? Imagine if every fan of every club just said I'm not qualified to judge.
Why even be on a football forum to start with?

Hopefully he will get a few more appearances during January - will surely start against the mini-rags in the cup - which will hopefully make him happy to stay for the rest of the season rather than pushing for a loan/transfer in the Jan window.
I think he really has something and could be a replacement "pausa" midfielder who can also chip in with a few goals. He will probably have to spend time out wide before he is trusted in the middle but it was great to get a glimpse of what he can do.

I think he will be OK out wide because of that drop of the shoulder so can go both ways easily . Will be exciting seeing him and Oscar integrated. Oscar more inside maybe.

Feel like he’s gonna have a similar season to Bobb’s last season. Talent evident but may not be given the minutes by Pep but one that will eventually get given the time

I was thinking the same .... that momentary split second blast of utter footballing genius, similar to Oscar up at St James's Park last season, will stay with us for years.

I'd be very cautious about getting hopes up here..

Lets not forget Pep lost faith in him after Feyenoord and the door only opened because Foden was having a stinker. Props to him for taking his chance but I don't think Pep is the type of manager that rates someone on 1 good outing..

Maybe I'm wrong but I still think McAtee is too small for our midfield and his future lies elsewhere.
