lets face it the country as a whole is fucked. fucked in every single living aspect. be it tax, immigration, spongers, prices, home loan shite and so on. government after government have not been able to sort it out. the daft thing is there are actually people on here think "their " party can make a difference. no they can't, we the public have let things go for too long. we have accepted what ever we've been fed. now we have seen where we are at its simply far too late to reverse some of the actions and policies that BOTH governments have put in place.

I am so fucking glad i'm old.

I take it your location is ironic then ;)

lol, forgot about that. we have to back him, he can't possibly break the country as badly as the liars did.

They're all liars mate, i washed my hands of politics a long time ago.

I figure if enough people decide not to vote them the whole process becomes undemocratic and we are a step nearer finding something that works. Maybe it's me with my head in the sand though.

The thing that shocked my most about this thread, is that the UK average wage is 26,500 pound per year.
Fucking hell!

meaningless figure, for many reasons some of which are they do not include the self-employed, part-time work, those who work for relatives, 'sensitive occupations', overtime . The stats take so long to collect they are obsolete before they ready to publish.Even if the figure was right it tells you nothing, the real test of a nations democracy is what percentage of the workforce earns below it. And it isnt 50% as some imagine it could be 95%.

i'm with you but I don't think there is a solution, its too broke. if and as things are its a big if I can carry on being pretty busy at work I will be off i'm afraid. in the last year I have seen too many friends (some on here) pass away, I am going to try my level best to provide a decent pension fund asap and live a slower, more relaxed last few years. I don't think that's possible in this country. i'll still watch whats going on but it'll be from afar with any luck. my second task is do the same for my kids.

I'm not sure how to write this post as I'm not sure where I'm going with it just yet. I'm just going to tell you about three people i know on DLA who are all potentially going to be effected with all the changes to the benefit system.

My Uncle John

My uncle John used to be a serving police officer and was married with two kids IIRC. Around 40 years ago though while on the job he was involved in a car accident and literally had the top of his head ripped off. Basically because of the car accident he was left with sever brain damage and the mental age of a 4 or 5 year old he also has all sorts of other medical problems to boot.

His wife as she had two little kids to look after at the time just couldn't look after him as he was a hand full so she handed him over to the state to look after. As he was a grown man with the mental age of a small child he was prone to temper tantrums. So instead of trying to treat him and help him the state shoved him in to an old style mental institute.

When my dad came home on leave from the Army he went to visit my uncle John, which btw was the first chance he had. When he got to the hospital he found my uncle John in a straight jacket and strapped to a chair, he was also a complete drooling wreck as he was overly medicated. My dad went ballistic at what the hospital had done to him and took him out of the hospital and took John back to my Grandparents. For around 20 years both my Grandparents looked after my uncle John until my Gran died around 20 years ago of a sudden heart attack. Then my Grandad on his own looked after my uncle John until he passed away 10 months ago.

Now John is near 70 and has lived in the same 2 bedroom flat for 20 odd years and in the same area ever since having his accident nearly 40 years ago. My dad would love to take him on as he loves his brother. There's no way though he could move John from Stranraer in Scotland to Beswick Manchester. It just wouldn't work and would cause murder as John has no inhibitions and he is basically stuck in his head in the 60/70 (he still think John Wayne is alive ffs). He's also that bad in fact he doesn't even know who my dad is. My dad to placate John had to shave of his tash which he's had my entire life as John now thinks my dad because he's bald and looks like my grandad is in fact my Grandad. The flip side of this is my dad can't move to Stranraer either to look after John. As my dad's flooring bushiness is in Manchester his kids and grankids are around there and me mam who's always lived in Manchester will not move to the middle of nowhere in Scotland. So that leaves one of two choices either John can stay where he is and try and make things work with carers. Or he can be handed over to the state to look after which after what they did the first time round my dads highly reluctant to do.

So the choice has been made for John to stay where he is and for carers to come in and look after him. With a little help from my aunty Elizabeth who has to much on her own plate to be really dealing with this, things are working. John is finally set in up in a routine and things are starting to go back to a sort of normality for him. There's still the odd occasion were my dad has to blow £100+ on petrol and drop everything to drive up to Scotland to sort things out but things are settling down. That was until all this crap with the benefit changes has come in.

I'm asking you lot now why the fuck should my uncle have to go for an assessment for PIP or potentially lose his home over the housing benefits as all his spare money is spent of carers ?

Christ to get John to do anything is a herculean task if its not in his routine and he doesn't want to do it. Trying to drag him to an assessment isn't going to work the chances are he'll piss off or tell them all to get to fuck or worse case scenario if the person doing the assessment is a **** with him or a nasty bastard he could end up twatting fuck out of them as he doesn't know any better as John is 6 foot odd and built like a brick shithouse and has a childs mind.

My Cousin Robert

Robert is my aunty Elizabeth (the one helping with my uncle) lad he has IIRC a sever form Multiple Sclerosis and is not long for this world. I can't tell you a lot about Robert as i had not seen him in years not until my grandads funeral last year. Robert though is 34 years old the same age as me. When we were kids we used to play football together even back then though he was a sickly lad but i had no idea he had MS. When i saw him at my grandads funeral last year it was the first time in years i had seen him and i was in complete shock. As the poor lad was hunched over to the side in his wheelchair like Stephen Hawkings with a mask on so he could breath.

Seeing that was bad enough as i was actually looking forward to meeting up with him and maybe having a pint with him as i didn't know about his MS. When i was told about Jackie his assistance dog that had just died (cancer) it was heartbreaking. Jackie his assistance dog was his whole world it was his best friend and it did everything for him. If he needed something picking up Jackie did it, if he needed help from his mum Jackie would go get her. If he stopped breathing during the night and was potentially going to die Jackie would raise the alarm by barking like a loon to get help.

Since Jackie died Roberts quality of life just isn't as good as it used to be and its put his poor mother Elizabeth under so much extra pressure as she now has to do everything Jackie used to do. She also no longer has the peace of mind at night times that the dog will come and get her if anything is wrong with Robert. For some reason I'm not sure why, maybe its something to do with waiting list Robert though can't get another assistance dog unless someone forks out something like £30,000. From what i understand the locals did do a bit of a fund raiser and got him another dog from this special breeder that they got Jackie from. They didn't though have the full amount of money so the dog is untrained.

EDIT: Before i forget i think there's also a spare bedroom with a load of medical equipment in that's needed to keep Robert alive.

Mrs Challenger1978

I've mentioned before about my Mrs having a massive stroke on bluemoon and her continually having mini strokes. Let me just give you some idea of what that exactly means. For starters she has abnormal arteries in her brain and a sticky bloody disorder. So pretty much it means shes fucked and there's fuck all anyone can do for her. All she can do is take blood thinners (pissing aspirin) and get on with it. Now to give you some idea how frequent these mini strokes happen since September last year she has had 20 to 30 mini strokes. Which admittedly is more than usual but things have got a lot worst since we decided to move house (to downsize) as the stress is getting to her badly.

If you don't know what a mini Stroke is I'm going to explain it to you now. A Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) or mini stroke as I've been calling them is basically just a full blown stroke. The difference being a full blown stroke last more than 24 hours and a mini stroke can last anywhere from a couple of minutes UPTO 24 hours.

Now if you don't know what a stroke is the simplest way to explain it is that its like a heart attack but of the brain. When my Mrs has a stroke she becomes completely paralyzed down her left hand side. She also suffers from aphasia which means not only does she slur her word but she becomes incomprehensible until she can no longer talk at all. Also her eye turns inward and one pupil remains normal while the other looks like its at a disco as it expands and contracts continually. Once shes finished having a mini stroke shes left with a sever headache much much worse than the one she has 24/7. Also because of the sever headache she becomes violently sick throwing up Continually for around 24 hours. She then has to spend anywhere up to a week in bed laid up as its just to painful to move her head around.

BTW the headache she has 24/7 is caused because part of her brain is literally dead which was caused by her big stroke. As the dead tissue can't be removed as it could kill her outright or leave her a gibbering cabbage for the rest of her life if it was removed. If you didn't know having dead tissue in your body can be bloody painful.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now I've gone through this thread I'll admit I've not read all of it as most of it seems to be attacks on one another as usual so i might of missed something. From what I've got so far the supporters of the benefit reforms just want the scroungers to fuck of and the genuine people to get the money that's due them and maybe even more. Where as the lefties (Labour supporters) are up in arms saying the government are just being bullying *****.

Now I'm no fan of Labour (I've swore on here i would never vote for them again) or the Conservatives and as for the Libdems I've always known them to be a bunch of lying **** that would say anything to get a cushy job from even before the coalition. I'd also like to make clear I'm all for getting rid of the scroungers as I'll admit there are people i know fiddling the system and it pisses me of they're doing just that.

The thing is though the change from DLA to PIP really does appear to me like the Conservatives are just trying to lash out at the Labour party and its voters rather than trying to genuinely sort the situation out. I just find it highly strange that just as PIP is being introduced on April 8th its only being introduced in the North, Northwest and Northeast which is Labour heartlands and the rest of England the south (conservative heartlands) does not get the change until 2015. They're also at the exact same time slashing legal aid so people will no longer be able to appeal any wrongful decisions unless they can afford legal representation themselves.

Honestly i really am baffled at how this is going to work as both my Mrs and uncle John (as far as i know) both have life time awards for DLA and I'm guessing my Terminally ill cousin Robert does to.

Mrs Challenger1978 isn't supposed to be put under stress its that simple when she stresses her blood pressure goes up which in turn means shes more likely to have a stroke which could potentially kill her. That's literally what we live with every fucking day. She doesn't even know about all the changes coming up with DLA to PIP or she'll be in tears again asking why she cant have a new brain and be better (she doesn't understand) if i tell her about the crap that's coming. I can't deal with that, every time she wants a new brain topic and to be better comes up. As it fucking kills me inside explaining it to her that she can't have a new brain and get better.

Then you've got my uncle John just getting him to an assessment at their time and choosing is going to be near impossible. Trying to get him to do anything that's not in his routine is like trying to heard bleeding cats it just not going to happen. If he could have an assessment whenever my dad or John carers could get him in there fair enough but that's not how PIP is going to work. The new system is going to be people being continual assessed as and when ATOS (I'm guessing its them) choose. That doesn't seem fair or right to me and a piss poor way of working it and i agree with fucking of scroungers and the Government needing to make big cuts.

One of the very great BM posts that.

Take care pal, if you need adivce PM me

People have stopped claiming incapacity benefit instead of having a medical to prove their entitlement. Why could that be?

that is an amazingly huge figure, Im sure the majority were scamming the system for it to be so big and really you cant criticize a government for saving taxpayers money and ending the fiddles.

for genuine claimants who couldnt make the assessment there should be an appeal process so they can be assessed maybe at home.

It makes you wonder what other scams are happening costing a fecking fortune.
