9/11 memories,where were you.

On holiday in Mallorca.

sat in bar (about lunch time) watching CNN. reporting on the how the first tower had been hit, showing live pictures saying what a tragic accident it was then crash...and it all became clear it was no accident.

I also remember being in a dusseldorf hotel hungover (day of schalke game) when the attacks on the hotels in Mumbai (??) happened, watching it on the news thinking if they did that here they'd get short thrift with a couple of hundred hungover football fans..obviously not thinking about the automatic weapons and hand grenades.

was in a record shop some one rushed in to tell what had happened ,didn't believe him

carried on browsing an half hour later got home and the second plane hit

Was out on road working in Rochdale, thought fuck this am goin home to watch on tv.....talkshite broke the news to me

City played that nite as well away in Carling Cup(or whatever it was called then) at Notts County

Another thing I remember about that time was a lot of people being almost paralysed by fear for quite a long time.

I started at Man Met Uni on September the 15th and that night was at the Student Union. During the night there was a powercut and the place was plunged into darkness. Cue lots of screaming and people running around aimlessly.

Packing my room at RAF Coltishall. My mate rang from upstairs and asked if I was watching the telly. Of course not - I was busy packing. I was summoned upstairs, to find my mate staring at what I assumed to be a film. Just then, the second plane came along. 'This is real,' said my mate. Managed to watch a bit more before we all had to catch the bus to the evening shift at Neatishead. Eveyone was standing around in the entrance hall - 'Did you see?' 'Did you see?'

The only one who was making any other noises was the RN exchange bod. It was his birthday. 'Well, no-one will ever remember my birthday again,' he said. Well, sorry, Tom, but it's just because of 9/11 that I do remember!

I was 11 at the time, first year in Secondary School, so a year 7. Scary where the time goes.

9/11 was a tragedy yeah, but it was 9/11 everyday for people in Iraq and Palestine in the years that followed.

LOL If i can recall, I had just finished smoking weed on my lunch break.

Cant walk properly. My mind is dazed out. I walk back into the office, and out of nowhere this guy comes up to me and breaks the news about the twin towers. My response went something like ... "is that where faulty towers is..." And i got a dirty look from him.

So as everyone gathers round the only TV in our office. Im sitting there on my desk buzzing out of my brain! Didnt know what the hell was going on. So i end up playing mind sweeper for the rest of the afternoon whilst the whole office sat there watching the news unfold.

Knocked off work early to watch it on sky news; then drove up to Nottingham for the City - Notts Co. match. At one point there was a debate as to whether or not the match would take place. Took a wrong turn and drove through Nottingham airport, drove past a plane parked nearby the terminal (anybody who knows the place will know it's only a small place), probably a 737 or something similar, that was when it struck me the magnitude of what had happened. At the match the minutes silence was observed immpecably. Same again at the following weekend match, away at Sheff Wed (6-2) I think. The following midweek away at Coventry and the local firemen were having a collection to raise money for the families of the NYFD - I seem to remember loads and loads of people were giving money. Just shows what sort of spirit there is for others who are less fortunate thean you when that sort of stuff happens.
