I can definitely see that. But for me it's about the impact on Haaland. I don't think he has the massive ego some reports like to make out but he's young and wants to play the big matches like these.It’d be about the press. If Pep decided to go with Foden/Bernardo as a false 9 to press them to death, then bring Haaland on for the last half hour.
Probably nonsense and he’ll score 5 there.
Sterling wanted to leave because he saw his arse over not being picked for the big games anymore. I know it's not the same situation here but think Haaland would be pissed off being left out the starting line up against Liverpool, even with the full intention of bringing him on.
I think bringing him on as sub against lesser Prem teams helps manage his minutes in a way that doesn't upset the apple cart too much.
