9 | Erling Haaland - 2023/24

We are a much better team without him.
We become so predictable when he plays.
He always drifts to the far post, never runs in front across the defender. General contribution in open play is nonexistent.
Blaming KDB , Silva , Foden and Rodri for his poor performances is ridiculous.
I think our mistake, was also to let go of goal scorers and bringing non-scoring players. Perhaps he might thrive with fast paced, goal scoring, good crossing wingers!!
He is very garbage aerially and misses too much sitters, perhaps fast wingers that score, will feed off his scraps and be a threat at the far and near posts. When Haaland is creating space, they can punish and score themselves, or when they a threat, then they can create space for Haaland to score.

He was never going to replicate last seasons numbers but his presence occupies two defenders in every game its up to his team mates to take advantage of the space he creates and spot his intelligent runs off the ball , he wlll end up with more than thirty goals in an average season which puts things into perspective.

Foden is our only other player with scoring instincts after selling Mahrez and Gundogan.

Doesn't attack crosses just waits for them to bounce off his 50p head or throws himself to floor in hope of pen. His movement let alone his finishing is well off what it was last season. You see him bouncing some shite cb to the floor one game then hides in his shell when faced vs a good one.
He's probably given up running in behind defenders because nobody passes the ball to him.

Our passing is so risk averse that we aren't creating chances for one of the most freakish goalscorers in modern footballing history.

Haaland is a great player. I rather he plays for us than against. There are a lot of improvements possible. Is he willing to learn these at City? Or somewhere else??

HIs movement in crosses is awful. Especially against low blocks, you have to attack the cross, not go to the back post (which he does all the bloody time). What is he expecting? The ball to magically pass through 6 Arsenal players in the box?

He doesn't have any excuse to stip running in behind. He is the player who presses the least. Even if he only gets the pass 1 out of every 50 run in behinds, that is literally his job

Tactics meant he was put 2v1 against two defenders who could grapple to their hearts content. No real service whatsoever but he doesn’t make things happen himself and that’s an issue.

Elite forwards make things happen when they’re struggling and he doesn’t. Yet. It’ll come but nowhere near that level yet.

I think it’s easy to forget we had Aguero in the peak of his powers from day 1 and didn’t really see him needing to massively evolve his game/improve certain areas. The opposite of Haaland.

But nobody passes the ball in behind anyway. He's constantly looking to run off the last defender but we're preoccupied with turning round and rolling the ball back to a CB.

Bernardo Silva in particular is extremely guilty of this.
