#9 | Gabriel Jesus - 2020/21 Performances

His best games in the last two seasons were away at Villa when he played as the left forward and away at Madrid where he played as the left forward.
I agree that although he is good at the press and pulling defenders around, he is failing in other areas

I also agree that he seems to perform better out wide left, but then he will also have another obstacle from next season - Torres.

Torres in my eyes, we will see starting to force his way into Peps City mk2 and look to challenge Raz for his spot and hopefully take it as his own - that might also be the kick up the arse Raz needs as well.

Torres to me has more ability and higher goal threat than both Raz and Jesus

I think selling him isn't an option.

We all know that Gabriel Jesus in terms of Finishing and scoring the goals - is about confidence and that's something he lacks right now. Because in terms of overall play and skills and knowledge of the basics of football - he is a top class and that's the fact.

Right now he is 23. I don't know about you, but in terms of my career and personal improvement and job - I was completely different person till 25 and I am completely different person since 25. After that age I started to take initiatives more, became confident, wasn't afraid of mistakes and etc. So my idea is that, club should wait for Jesus to become 25-26 years old player and have a final check..

If he starts to improve in terms of confidence and initiatives and etc. - he will be the best striker in the world and that's something you should definitely gamble on. Worth trying and waiting.. Until that happens, use him as false9 and make him press more, support more and be involved in the team play.

I'd ship him in summer

Not good enough at all, never in the right position, poor finisher.

Shame looked the real deal when he came. Now he's a defensive striker.
Have you considered that Pep has turned him into exactly what he wants?

Of course he doesn't want him missing chances but everyone misses chances. Jesus work off the ball has been a big part to a lot of the great stuff that we have done since Pep arrived.

This is his fifth season with us. At the pinnacle of the game, as we are, you can't wait around for someone to *maybe* become good enough. He was bought to replace Aguero and he's not up to it, move him on and bring in someone who is. Simple.

He was brought in to replace Kelechi and to be the guy to pressure Sergio into upping his workrate.

If he was signed to replace Aguero then Aguero wouldn't be here five seasons later.

First of all -> when he was bought, in Palmeiras he played as a Left Winger and city needed someone who could cover Nolito, because Sane and Sterling were playing as RW and everyone knew that Jesus Navas was leaving as well. Also, Aguero had Iheanacho as a replacement and he had quite ad good reputation after Pelegrini`s last season. And Aguero was 27 years old - he didn't need replacement, needed cover / substitute.

Second of all -> during these five years, I think he has given us more than good enough contribution in terms of titles, goals and performances. Let's not forget that he was bough for 20-25 million and no one could imagine that he would be that good and score so many goals.. I think it was a gamble from the beginning, like Inter gambled on Gabriel Barbosa, Leicester on Iheanacho :D and etc.

So now situation is that Aguero is 32 years old and leaving the club at the end of this season.
This leaves us with one striker -> Gabriel Jesus.. You can either sell him and buy 2 new strikers, or
buy one striker and let Gabriel Jesus fight for his place.

I agree with you that right now he isn't fully deserving his place in the starting line-up, but in the team -> there shouldn't be any questions..

I dont know why people are bashing the lad for not being some amazing goalscorer. At no point in his career has he ever suggested that. He didnt bag 40 a season in Brazil so we took a punt on him.

Constantly comparing him to one of the greatest out and out strikers of the past decade is foolish as well. Starting to sound like the rags who bash their players for not being as good as their legends and forcing them out the door.

Pep has molded Jesus into the player he wants, does he want more goals, of course he does but Pep has shown no loyalty to anyone really since he got here. If he had a problem with him he would be gone.

I think a major thing he needs to work on is his movement off the ball. At times he doesn't seem to want to make the run to have the chance of scoring a goal. There are times when we're breaking forwards and he runs diagonally away from the player to take the defender away, but then doesn't show a quick change of direction to then get into the space and allow a simple ball played through.

If you watch top strikers, it's that movement off the ball which is what separates them. Their finishing might be a bit better than Gabby's as well, but it's the confidence to keep getting into those good positions. I'd like to see Gabby work on this. Aguero is the king of it. He is always thinking about where to be to get on the end of the pass and have a shot on goal. He's not interested in creating space for someone else to score, he creates the space for them to move into in order for him to benefit. Gabby just needs that little bit of selfishness at times.

His workrate and skill is top notch and he's young enough to develop and improve his goal scoring record still.

Surely he was bought as a forward back up for Aguero, replacing Kelechi, based on his 2015 U20 World Cup and Olympic 2016 and Palmeiras performances and City's scouting. Who said he was an Aguero replacement at 18 years old. He's been a bargain.

It'd be the dumbest business the club has done in years.

One injury to Haaland and we'd be relying on a crippled 34 year old Aguero or false 9's up front.

Seriously has half this forum forgotten you need more than 1 striker?
It would be the best business done by the club in years.
