In my opinion, except for exclusive religious state-maintained schools, no, schools do not teach the word of God. They teach about many religions, their traditions, customs and teachings etc. and do not endorse one over the other or over atheism, agnosticism, humanism etc. At the same time schools also teach big bang and evolution.

So when my 6 year old came home on friday and started saying that jesus was the son of god and a guy with a guitar has been singing to them and TEACHING them about the Bible, how on earth is that not erm teaching kids in mainstream schools?

I'm out mate, i'm chillin'.

Maybe when he's seven he'll come home telling you about Allah, and maybe when he's fifteen he'll come home telling you about the big bang.

The word "teaching" was used, mainstream "teach" the word of god, assembly, church service' etc etc, so if someone is accusing the next guy of "abuse" if they teach the good word, then it is surely double standards to send "your" kid to be taught the good word, unless of course you remove them from any form of "abuse" ie R.E. class and the like, seriously now, i should'nt have to explain this, oh fuk, i just did, i'm now going off this forum and going to the Zoo with me kids and having a nice and chilled out day, and yes, there are Chimps at this Zoo. Have a nice day lad and before you do anything else, get a nice cold flannel on your face and have a lie down. Peace.

Buzzer- stop being a hypocrite. JMW didn't "attack" you at all. He didn't call you a cock, he wasn't overly personal, so chill the hell out. You need to take criticism better without resorting to the unbalanced "you're a cock, everyone hates you" routine that you have used on JMW, me and several others.

You say they are "unprovoked attacks" but they are just examples of people disagreeing with what you put out in the publi domain. As soon as the stuff is out there, don't take umbridge if someone takes the piss or is critical.

Nah mate, i used to basically fight fire with fire, but these days not much gets under my skin. The reason that i first had a go with you was when you brought up an old thread, a thread that got a little nasty and i was again abused and even with PMs,nasty PMs at that, but everything was sorted out with the aggressor and the thread was dead, only to be brought back up months later and you then accused me of throwing a strop because people don't agree with me, when infact you was dredging up shite that you really knew bascally nothing about, that is all.

SHE may well do, but i have an 11 year old also and don't seem to remember her visiting any Mosques or other for that matter, just Church, Church and more Church.

Some schools are connected to churches. Indeed, for some you must attend church. This is the case of some of the schools in my town, those would fall under religious exclusionary but state-maintained. If I had my way they'd have to choose between exclusion and state funding. If it's not one of those schools, yes, I'd be concerned and I wouldn't send my hypothetical children there nor to the exclusionary religious schools (as I also refused to - that was my choice though, not my parent's).

I could reel off a list of names that would mean nothing to you but there are millions of us round the world.

I also see no conflict between Maths, Science and Religion. As I've pointed previously, the Society of Jesus has Mathematicians, Scientists etc.
