A letter on justice and open debate.

Another example of someone being sacked for their political views - this time from Corrie.

Freedom of speech has taken an absolute battering in UK society over the past 12 month and it's long overdue for a change in legislation e.g. a free speech act, to guarantee people their livelihoods irrespective of what political opinion they hold (bar some very extreme exceptions).

This cancel culture era we're living in will hopefully be looked upon with utter disdain by future generations.

If I had where I work on my social media platform and then made comments that could bring my employers into disrepute, I would be up before a disciplinary panel by next wprking day for breaching the business social media policy.

Standard practice.

I remember mate got arrested at the swamp maybe 18 years ago, his name appeared in the MEN along with where he worked a few daya later, he got sacked for gross misconduct just after because of this.

Nowt new or to be outraged at.

So what you are saying here is that you want the freedom of speech that suits what you think is within the boundaries of normality. Because you either have total freedom of speech without exception or you have freedom of speech with exception. Your idea of what may be extreme may differ hugely to what mine is and mine to yours. Yet you say extreme exceptions, why shouldn't somebody with extreme views have the right to freedom of speech if you also have the right to freedom of speech.

That is the point of the law, it defines extreme, you may not agree with it, but it is the considered and democratic norm that allows society to function otherwise we can all say want we want without recourse and what rabbit hole could that lead people down. Speech that is considered against societal norms becomes normalised and as normally it appears that the right to freedom of speech means the right to abuse without recourse then you are encouraging abuse and that abuse is normally aimed at those who are most marginalised.

I don't believe anybody is saying you can not hold a political opinion, sometimes though it is just manners and common courtesy to keep that political opinion to yourself, because exercising your freedom to speak comes with responsibilities, if you break those responsibilities then you pay the price for it because total freedom of speech does not and never has existed.

I don’t believe you, unless he was arrested, charged and found guilty, if only by magistrates, as being arrested isn’t a sign of guilt and he would be able to sue for wrongful dismissal under the treatment of offenders act.

The difference now is your mate would be sacked for thinking of going and doing something wrong,

If nothing else this thread has proved beyond doubt it is the left, reading who the posters are and their responses, that is leading the assault on lawful freedom of expression and introducing totalitarianism of thought. It will bite you on the arse one day.

Orwell could see you all a mile off.

Don't believe, I don't care he worked in a hotel and the GM took bad publicity like that seriously which is batshit crazy as this hotel chain gets bad publicity all the time as the shittest in the country, but the GM at the time was very fussy about what got reported especially locally, and the lad was up in front of a magistrate hence why name in paper.

Similarly a chef at work the other year had as his twitter profile works at......., From in Leve, United fan, proffessional weed smoker

I had to ask him to remove either the weed smoker bit or where he worked as it broke our social media policy as it associated drug taking as acceptable in works eyes.

City blocked a porn star the other year form their social media because she made a few vids of helfself in a city shirt doimg her work and # the club.

Any business will weigh up what is acceptable in preserving their reputaion and always have no matter the media, be it printed, visual or social.

As it stands yes someone posting lets say, they are thinking of burning down a building would now maybe be checked upon, still unless they actually did it they wouldn't be tpuched by the police.
So no thoughts cannot get you banged up, actions can.

Freedom of expression is in our lives everyday, I can say what the fuck I like as a reasonable law abiding citizen, what I cannot do is encourage law breaking or hate, well I can unless I am reported as all social media platforms prove as they are fulll of people saying what the fuck they like.

He’s an independent contractor and therefore they can serve him notice/get rid of him without any reason whatsoever.

That said, we’ve now reached a point where saying something isn’t racist, either a statement, act or an industry you work in, is deemed as bad as racism itself.

You have to say everything is racist or you’re a racist yourself.

This is what happens when those that need a cause, run out of room and start looking for a straw man.

No doubt, a couple of posters will be on to say how they’re glad it’s annoyed particular people, without realising that their jobs might be on the line in future too.

Reminds me of this-

He wasn't just expressing political views though was he? He was openly baiting and being abusive to fellow professionals from across the industry on social media. As a freelancer in the media, to be calling other professionals "fucktards" for expressing THEIR own opinions is incrediy stupid behaviour. He's bringing conflict and disrepute upon the organisation who has been employing him and has suffered the same fate anybody else would whether they work in or out of the public eye. This isn't new. If you behave like you a total twat then people will choose to not do business with you. You can try and use this as an another example of culture wars bullshit if you must though. In the old days, if somebody wanted to act like an arsehole, they woukd just suck it up when people exercised their free choice to not bother with them. Now they whine about about being "cancelled". This guy needs to just fuck off and take his medicine.

Refuting the perceptions of others, and their ideas about racism, now gets
you the sack, unless you actually join in with their diktats, and support them wholeheartedly, you're out. The producer sacked said nothing untrue or controversial, he listed facts that are uncomfortable with those who purport
to be the champions of morality. Nothing can be done in these cases though, as he's contracted, so they don't need reasons, but we're seeing this cancel culture more and more, and I believe there will eventually be a backlash.

Well it's interesting, because historically the right wing have been against anything that prevents private companies from firing someone for whatever they want. It was the right that opposed every law designed to prevent people from being fired for characteristics such as race, gender, sexuality, being pregnant, etc. Now that it's their political views that are unfashionable, they're suddenly all for the government forcing bosses to employ people they don't want to. Funny that.
