What was stokes average attendance in division 2?
i know the highest attendance they had in the 97/98 season was 26k against us when we won 5-2 n both went down. and i was sat in the stoke end centinal stand or what ever it is and there was a few more hundered city fans around us.

City were obviously by far the best supported team that season
Stoke were 2nd.
The difference was HUGE.
We averaged 28,273, plus 0.3% on the season before.
They averaged 12,735 minus 15.1% on the previous year.

Only other teams to get more than 10,000 were:
Preston ave. 11,931
Fulham ave. 11,387
Reading ave. 11,262
Burnley ave. 10,605

Interestingly Bournemouth (scene of Horlocks red card for 'aggressive walking'!) averaged 7,118, more than Millwall and Gillingham at 6,958 and 6,748 respectively.

all info from: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attn/archive/aveeng99.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.european-football-statistics ... eeng99.htm</a>

I stand corrected. I'm pretty sure that in the three years after that following the Icelandic takeover we averaged over 13,000 though. That figure's in my head from somewhere.

wasn't posted to correct you pal.
I was interested for myself. Thought it might have been more than that actually.

Cheers for that....I seem to remember Stoke topping the League up until Xmas time or maybe just behind Fulham? After we beat them at Maine Road they fell away badly.

That was the game that changed our season, Gareth Taylor I seem to recall.......

We were top for a long time but weren't play especially well. Eventually we got what was coming to us and completely collapsed, dropping down to 8th. A horrible, horrible season.
