A new fan..

Strange thing this as its something i could never have and never will see myself doing, Im 28 so i have not really up until last few years known city be anything other than a poor side in football terms, yet it never was an issue for me because all my life they had been that way. We were not shit to me, we were just city and i loved them because i knew nothing else and never wanted to, i took all the piss taking in the world and i never cared because they are MY TEAM.

My best pal was a dipper until he was about 10 but through knocking about with me he grew to love city (plus a bit of a shove from me) and they have been his club ever since and same with his kid brother and even his own kids and i can't even imagine him being anything else. So it can happen for the good but its not for me, certainly never for an adult ie anyone over 16

my mate was a liverpool fan, after they were good i might add (he was never old enough to see liverpool win everything). all his close mates were city fans and he started going to the odd game here and there with us when thaskin was in charge so you can hardly say he switched for glory reasons as liverpool were above us. he ended up buying a half season ticket for that 07/08 season and basically fell in love with the club. ever since he's been there pretty much week in week out, these things happen.

he was never a proper liverpool fan in the first place, he's only been to anfield a handful of times and only supported them because his dad did. he now says he's blue to the core and city is his team although he admits he still looks out for liverpool occasionally. basically his ideal scenerio would be city 1st liverpool 2nd.

he'll be supporting city 100% in the cc semi's i might add. also he fucking hates utd with a burning passion. i can't really fathom the idea of it as i've only known city for as long as i can remember and even if one day i decided to jack it all in, in terms of going i'd still be CTID and wpuldn't give up watching them as i just couldn't.

but i suppose the point i'm making is this lad is just as blue as the rest of us, even though he never saw the real dark days, which for me was constant torment at school from all the plastic rags, but he's still there 100% for the cause and gets just as emotional as the rest of our lot who go, heck he even had tears in his eyes at the semi last year but didn't have enough points to come to the final.

Looks like he hasn't seen this thread yet lol

Keeping with a team through thick and thin is all about character and is at the core of being british. We are without doubt one of the most stubborn cultures , peoples on the face of the planet. We are also one of the most laid back, can't be arsed bunch as well. However, when we really one to do something we do it better than any country on the face of the planet, As a child I think you can be forgiven for changing you're team and as an adult location changes can mean you end up supporting two teams! But as an adult, it goes against all thats right and holy, to simply drop a team for one that is looking likely to be more successfull. I hope this lad goes back and carries on giving Blackburn his much needed support, but its his choice.

In truth, I can't blame him. Rovers are no longer a club for the fans (as they used to believe it anyway) since the buy-out and would you want to go and see Kean stud on the line week-in/week-out?

I'd be out of there faster than a dog from a smelly minge.

Saying that, lucky I stook around for the last 35 years for our chance, hope always did make a difference ;-)

this is the one aspect in hate about success, band wagon jumpers only supporting us when were good, dont mind people who have genuine reason ie youst to go, always liked us, but this guy is a class A t*** ;) seriously though he should be supporting his own team if my dad would have seen me switch from city to blackburn he would have killed me :) no joke

you think this is bad?

some lad i went to school with's dad is a big blue, this lad switched to be a man u fan during the treble season (fuck knows why his dad allowed it) and has slated city ever since. me and my mates clocked the cheeky **** in the pub watching.... i think it was the wolves cup game 5-2, anyway the little twat was cheering all of city's goals and had our new shirt on. needless to say my mate thumped him on the way out lol!

typical modern day "fan" if we dont win anything this season he will be a die hard LA galaxy fan next yr

If he is now a City fan, he should stop posting and thinking about Blackburn so much for a start. :D

he sounds like a right knob

Watching the THOUSANDS desert our team at 2-0 down at Wembley in 1999 with no thought about supporting the boys to the end showed me exactly what sort of fans we had. "City fans were loyal when they were in Division 2" was said, and is said very very often. But when the going actually got tough and it looked as though we would have another season in the third division the real arrogant sods with huge superiority complexes really showed their true colours right there and then.

So nothing surprises me about football fans. Fickle isn't the word, well it is but to an unbelievable level when it comes to football fans.

A bit harsh that....i know fans who repaired to the pub for several of the goals at the 8-1 boro drubbing, doesnt make them less of a fan because they didnt attend the carnage at the end.

We have put up with more than most in our support of city.

We have put up with more than most in our support of city.

Darlington 1–1 Manchester City 4 December 1998

City fans fighting amongst themselves and berating our Coaches.

This was a horrible day out until Dicky scored.

I bet we can find some City fans who deserted us in the 90's to support the Rags and still do.

I can think of some fans who went to City one week Rags the next in the 70's and 80's who only watch the Rags now.

He was never a real fan of Blackburn nor will he be at city

You can't change like that its just not right, its bollocks

We have all lived through it, stuck with it believed it and now we have it, I'm proud of our dark days and it was great to be park of it because it was City and thats all i was bothered about - simple
