A Positive from the new euro away ticket system?

..............
To crack points whoring, check who's having tickets for
  • The first away game of the season
  • Liverpool
  • United
  • Everton
  • Burnley
  • Bournemouth
  • Arsenal
  • Smallish allocations in the early rounds of the FA Cup
  • Later rounds of the FA Cup
  • Games played over Christmas and Easter
  • Games in Germany and Spain
  • Last away match of the season
If they really wanted to stop it they are the games to target.
Looks like I'm to blame as I've been to most of those. As for last game of the season - Swansea tickets have arrived.
If it's a dig at some irregular fans I'll agree about the swamp and Klanfield (but not this season cos it was at night) but we don't get many tourists at Everton. As for Bournemouth; there were a lot of kids who couldn't possibly have had the points, but box holders and some Premium seat dudes have no problems getting tickets.

And corporate are allowed to apply for up to four tickets per card, seems fair doesn't it?

But I'm not arguing against stopping the tickets being passed on? I've not once said it.
I'm arguing against being treated as second class citizens, against being herded to one point, to having to carry your passport around with you, to having one section of fans not having to queue whilst others do have to, and most of all against the bull shit that says this has been introduced by UEFA.

You said my idea was against data protection, don't apply for the card then.
All I said it needs is a DoB, seasoncard number and name.
The club hold your details securely like any airline etc.
The problem is you haven't come up with a feasible alternative. This proposed away card doesn't do anything that showing a passport or driving license to collect your ticket doesn't do. I think that a driving license should also have been acceptable as ID but that's a minor point. After I collected mine I dropped my passport off at my hotel. If I was on a day trip I'd have it with me anyway. The point about data protection was about registering your passport with the club which is what you suggested.

So we both agree that passports shouldn't be carried to the game to gain entry?

It's not against data protection laws for a third party to hold information on you that you agree to as long as they don't use it for reasons not agreed by you, or that the information is not passed on. Ask the club why they feel it's necessary to have passport checks, I think it's a step too far.

However if they could sort out a system that allows us to get our tickets with minimum of fuss and to stop people getting them who are not going, I'm all for it.

1. Yes I agree and I was only told to take photo ID which wasn't asked for at the stadium.
2. It was you who said your passport should be registered with the club. I feel they already have enough information about me without giving them my passport number. As for passport checks to collect the ticket I suspect it was to keep it simple. If they'd widened it to cover other forms of ID, some people would have tried it on with bus passes, library cards etc. Driving licences should have been acceptable though.
3. Agreed but the only way I can see it working is for tickets to be collected at the away city. It's a different problem for UK aways as people don't tend to arrive much more than an hour before kick off.
Obviously there are certain things that would make the process better but it worked for me. The issues with SCs, official trips and corporate are also separate and need looking at but they are not justification for scrapping the whole scheme.

As I said before, when did I say we should scrap the scheme?
What I have said
  • It's fuck all to with points whores
  • It hasn't stopped people without the points getting tickets
  • It's all about control
  • We shouldn't have to use our passports
  • There shouldn't be a two tier system
You seem concerned with the first and fourth, and both these should be addressed but doesn't mean we need to trek to a collection point.

Although it hasn't stopped all people on low points from getting tickets it's definitely allowed more people with 9000 to 14000 points to get tickets they wouldn't have otherwise got and that's got to be a good thing. As for trekking to a collection point I've still not seen any simple alternative suggested that would actually work. All this nonsense about photos on tickets is totally unfeasible for reasons I've said in numerous posts and away clubs aren't interested in "away cards" or any ID.

Ok

I appreciate loyalty and all that. I went to near enough every away game in the dark years. But do you really want the same people at the big matches all the time. It could be counter productive. To me it's a conundrum.

But its the same people at the smaller matches, quite often surrounded by a sea of empty seats.
