A proper discussion...what made you support city?

I'm a 4th generation blue
My great-grandad was shot in WW1 in Ypres in 1917(he was 18) and had to have a lung removed
After coming home like many soliders at that time he could't hold down a proper job so he ended up do various odd jobs, one of which working the turnstiles at Hyde Rd!!(he got 3-4 shillings a game and free to watch the match) my grandad said he would walk from Moston to Ardwick(would take about 3 hours!!) and get the train back(to dean lane i think)
1st game he took my grandad to was in 1934(he was 9) to the F.A cup game vs Stoke the record attendance one 84,000+
my grandad said he couldn't belive that so many people could fit in one place!!
my grandad took my dad to his 1st game in 61 for his birthday(he was 7) and that was the derby(we lost 3-1 i think)
My 1st game was against Grimsby in the 83-84 season(i was 7) we won 2-0 i think and we was in the platt-lane seats
There was me,my dad my grandad(his 2nd to last game,) and my great-grandad(his last ever game, he died during the 84 olympics)
special memories, 4 generations of city fans in one match
so there you go nearly 100 years of family history and all linked with city, and hopefully a 5th generation is not too far away!
CTID
P.s writing about this is getting me a bit emotional!!

Boxing Day, early-mid 70s, with all the men of the family, watched City v Leeds in Platt Lane seats.

We lost 0-1.

See me username, like:). I will never forget that interview in the Russian paper, where Zhora described City support as "something special". That, and frightening familiarities between my own life and the history of the club. You know, the whole ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT salad bar thingy.

My dad was a big fan and used to take me a bit, I was a bit of a plastic to be honest until the kaka saga reignited the blue flame...

Now I can't get enough, was seriously considering buying an ST for next year but couldn't afford to due to paying off the credit on my guitar :-(

As an aside, I have a 4 year old son who insists he supports united because his cousin does, trying to make them both blues, taking them to games and stuff... their first game will be barnsley away, can't wait!

Any tips for keeping him/them Blue?

Going to games will do it.

Don't take them to Barnsley away, that would be my tip.

Take them to a match with a good atmosphere. That's what hooks the kids in.

My old man was 1 of 5 brothers, all but him were rags, and obviously he then went to work on my alligence to the blue side of manchester, pretty much from birth, the first time we went and I walked out onto a full Kippax (standing at the time) and saw the boys in blue on the fantasticly green pitch I was hooked.

Barnsley would just be the beginning... was planning on taking them to Celtic but a friend of mine is very selfishly getting married that day!

The next one will be Arsenal at home, can't wait for that!

My mam sent me to bed for something I hadnt done. My eldest brother felt sorry for and took me to the match the day after. That was about 1969 / 70. I was that small I could sit on his shoulders in the Kippax and not block anyones few. First impression was how green the pitch looked. We won 2-1 against a side playing in yellow shirts and blue shorts. To this day I dont know who. The attendance was 52K I think. After that I was always gonna be hooked.

Took my eldest when he was 2 to his first game. Hes 18 this year and been a seasonticket holder for 8 years. Hes hooked as well.
