The real reason why Ferrari's (and a lot of other Italian makes) are red, is red is Italy's racing colours. I love City but would have a red Ferrari as it's nothing to do with football, it's traditional racing colours. When Enzo Ferrari started racing cars Italy's racing red was a deep blood red not the post office red now.
The lighter red was taken on for sponsors like Marlboro.
