Without knowing why the jury came to their decision, they cleared him of murder. He didnt get away with anything because he was a copper. He was convicted of/pleaded to manslaughter. The average sentence for that is about 6 years. A sentence of 13 years is therefore double and probably right for the charge, becasue he was a copper and because he was violent towards someone.
I am not defending him, I cant believe he got away with manslaughter but it had nothing to do with him being dibble.

The first one you quoted is down to fools on a jury and I still can't get my head around the not guilty verdict for murder. A violent horrible man free in 8 years? 6!!!!

They are pointing out the difference between the policing of this event and that of the vigil last weekend.
