A thread about protesters

We live in a world where you can’t hug your gran, get fined if you open your place of work, and get more jail time for protesting annoyingly and not declaring you have a two week jolly in Portugal than a pedo. Really strange times
In the context of the pandemic these things are fine as temporary measures. It's that they are rescinded afterwards that matters.

If me and my mates went to our local park and started getting pissed together, we’d be fined, and if we refused to move on we’d be arrested.

Anyone who been out in large crowds for any reason during this pandemic, shame on you!

I’m fucking sick of these fuckers from the capital. Every other fucking week there’s another crowd gathered to have a fucking moan about something down there!

FUCKING GO HOME YOU CUNTS!
Yeah, it takes a special kind of **** to take an "all coppers are bastards" banner to a peaceful vigil, fuckin scum!

Whilst I don't think large scale protests should really be happening during a global pandemic, the bill that passed yesterday should be a cause for concern for anyone who cares about our democratic and civil rights. The right to peaceful protest is a fundamental cornerstone of democracy.

I'd add that if it is a legit emergency / pandemic measure then it is the job of her majesties opposition to ensure that the executive are held to account and these powers rescind in line with the virus control measures and are temporary. That is their function in upholding those civil rights and our democracy - and no, I'm not saying it's labours fault.

Exactly this. this new bill would have allowed the likes of Dr King, Rosa Parks to be jailed for 10 years!.

And the fact that this goes down to the single lone protester level, with no guidelines as to what is "noisy" or what "annoyance" is, basically means anyone that is against the government could be arrested just walking down the street with a political badge on etc.

dont get me wrong, thats a dystopian view on it, and Hopefully it would never be used like that, but they could be used like that. its the level of legislation that has been put in place here due to lax guidlines of what it means.

There's no sign this is Pandemic related at all. Id guess this is more down to the Extinction rebellion protests and those people who climb tree's or burrow under the HS2 route.

Even Pankhurst would've been given prison time....

It is very surprising the pro-free speech warriors have lost their tongues on this issue.

Metropolitan Police Federation

“I can’t apologise for my officers. I’m sorry of course that people are so upset at seeing officers enforcing legislation, but the officers were doing their duty as they saw it and I will not second-guess that at this time.”
Important statement today from Deputy Commissioner Sir Stephen House today. And important backing for officers.

He added: “I understand that their actions have upset people, and we see the evidence of that on a daily basis . . . but the officers acted as they did at the time because they thought they were doing the right thing to protect people’s health.”

Asked if he believed that agents provocateurs had been responsibility for a change in the mood on the night, he said: “The officers started to receive a degree of abuse, a degree of resistence.”

Sir Stephen – appearing before the committee of the Mayor’s office for policing and crime – went on to say that officers there on the night who were “public order specialists” say it was a very, very hostile situation.
He said that the measures taken “were proportionate and were not extreme”.

Good man.

Let’s not have the pandemic hijack a sensible debate. At present it is difficult to justify demonstrating for whatever reason but this government want to stifle free speech and ban ‘noisy’ demos. These new laws are part of the Conservative Government’s anti-democratic attempts to silence any opposition to its policies.

Some of the stuff on this thread is pure dog spunk . We are not as miserable as our press, manic extremists left and right would like .

That is easy for you to say but I feel every day is getting worse and there is no end in sight to the constant turmoil and strife that dogs our life. Just when I thought it was getting better I woke up and realised it was just another rainy miserable day with no hope, food or warmth.

Then I realised at least I am not @dronefromsector7G and felt a lot better.

If the vigil was allowed to go ahead , didnt see scousers or rangers fan getting pushed over with two hands and arrested

Po!ice them all the same or not at all
We don’t have a national police force

They are all policed the same Kaz. Threat and violence brings about different tactics because these things escalate quickly. Not every assembly of people with a cause is the same. Make every protest the same or dont have them at all

Tonight Emmeline Pankhurst, Ghandi , MLK and even Jesus would be at risk of arrest for their protesting activities..... hardly makes you proud does it?
