A thread about protesters

People whose whole life and political outlook is essentially based on their right to not give a fuck about other people suddenly developing a massive social conscience about mythical blocked ambulances is pretty funny.

There is no moral high ground for you charlatans here no matter how hard you lunge. I’d have a modicum of respect if you were even a tiny bit honest: You don’t like lefties and don’t give a fuck about the environment.
Yeah because not giving a shit about anyone else is exactly why people are annoyed at Insulate Britain? It's incredibly ironic to call people selfish and then defend a group that protests specifically in a way that doesn't give a shit about others......

Around 60% of the public opposes these protests so that's either a lot of right-wing nutjobs who hate lefties or as per reality it's just the view of normal and rather pissed off people.

I’m still waiting to hear what these protests achieved other than paralysing a woman?

Is this regarding the caller to LBC? i can't find anywhere that his claims have been corroborated.

It's a sad state of journalism when a call (possibly a prank call) to a talk radio show has been reported widely by media outlets without being fact-checked.

Here is a credible journalist trying to corroborate it by reaching out on twitter but to no avail. Click on it to read whole thread.

Looks like bullshit to me, nothing in the news that isn't two months old. As George said, if it was more credible, it's the sort of story the Mail would cover in detail.

Well, clearly they do give a shit since they are campaigning to improve people’s homes. I mean, if they didn’t give a shit why would they bother?

I’m also impressed they have 40% support.

GB News would have the woman on 24/7. The Mail would be co-funding a Netflix drama based on the events of that day.

Do any of them Google because there are plenty of schemes offering grants to help improve the home from insulation to new boilers?

I’ve had several flyers through my door in the last few years alone for various schemes.

Bit of a strange prank call and why and by whom would they be corroborated? Medical records are kept private for obvious reasons. The caller sounded pretty sincere to me.

I typed ‘number of U.K. homes insulated’ into Google - top item was from the Govt.

‘At the end of 2020, 14.3 million properties had cavity wall insulation (70 per cent of properties with a cavity wall), 16.6 million had loft insulation (66 per cent of properties with a loft) and 772,000 had solid wall insulation (nine per cent of properties with solid walls).’

Everything on the first page was in the same vein. Clearly, Insulate Britain use Google. Did you?

But they aren't helping to insulate their homes, they're gluing themselves to a road.

Why don't they form a non-profit company that cheaply insulates homes? Of course though that would be too productive and might even solve the issue plus they'd have to goto work like the rest of us instead of protest, we wouldn't want that.

……and grants are available to home owners and even some private tenants for those without who wish to get.

Thise numbers above hardly spell a picture of a majority of homes with nothing do they?

They are raising awareness of the issue and looking for action on a national level. They have raised awareness. This thread is testament to that. I had no idea that a third of all UK cavity wall properties were not insulated or that 90% of all solid wall properties were not insulated. That is the point of a campaign. To raise awareness.

A third of cavity walled homes have no insulation. 90% of solid wall homes have no insulation. Millions of homes have no insulation. Insulate Britain are campaigning to raise awareness of the issue and to prompt the Govt to do more to insulate UK homes. Our reaction? Put nine people in prison. A decision that was not only dumb, but oddly pathetic.

I thought the focus was on social housing, not private housing.
Chances are those living in social housing can't afford it, and the councils probably can't either.

Out of interest, because I've not followed the protests that much due to not watching the news and it's not exactly making waves here in Spain, but has the government actually engaged in any proper discussions with the protesters in order to try and reach some kind of resolution?
Has their been any encouragement that their protests have reached the right people or is it basically being ignored and fobbed off?

Actually, we threw a collective tantrum, someone tried to run some of the protestors over and then we jailed nine of them.

So, no, there wasn’t any adult or reasoned dialogue. We don’t do that as a rule.

Yes, I think the main aim was social housing in terms of Govt action, and to raise the issue generally.

Many people on here have given examples of how grants are available to get insulation. Guess what though I've just been on the insulate Britain website and there's NOTHING on there that makes you aware of this.

If you go on their website it is purely about action, it has nothing on it about awareness, it barely even explains what insulation is.

This lot are eco anarchists who only want a reason to protest, that's it.

Neither did you nor them as if you did you would see we have and have had schemes and grants for a long time enabling those that want this done to get it done.

Unless of course we all have to do what Mavis and Duncan of Insulate Britain say now?

As for putting them in prison? They did that themselves. It’s called personal accountability.
