The problem though is nobody would give a seconds notice to a protest which wasn't really affecting anybody. A few dozen folk just standing in a street somewhere with placards would just quietly be swept under carpet and forgotten about, certainly wouldn't prick the publics conscious.
To get attention to a cause usually needs something that will grab headlines.
Not going to argue the rights or wrongs of this particular protest but I can understand why they've chosen to do what they've done.

The problem is this hasn’t worked either, sure it’s got more notice but in a negative sense for the aims of the protestors. The population have turned against them and that has ensured the government can just ignore it or even get heavy handed with them.
