Feb 1st 1969 - Newcastle at Maine Rd, it was the Saturday after we beat them in the FA Cup replay in front of 60,000+. The rain was so heavy you could barely see the opposite goal. The ref called it off just after Bobby Owen made it 1-1 a few minutes before HT.

I was looking for that game last week. My dad decided to buy season tickets the following season as he didn't get his money back. If it had ended after HT he would have done.

Vague memories of being in a pub at Crewe and the game being called off, probably about 15 years ago.

This was my first ever derby. The rain was torrential and unceasing. I was stood (yes stood) at the Platt Lane end just below the edge of the roof. The uphot was that my back was dry but my front was drenched. The top part of my programme that proruded from my raincoat pocket was white as the print had been completely washed away. This was a few months before the infamous Luton abandonment when Denis Law scored 6 goals that never counted and he scored in the 2-2 abandoned derby too. True to form, just like Luton, City lost the rearranged game.
