Abandoned home matches

City v Chelsea ended early in May 2001, but it wasn't counted as abandoned. They went around telling the stewards how long there was left, like they would do for the derby rather than making it public, and it was 2 or 3 to be added, and 30 secs later the ref blue due to the invasion

Cue turf chucking contest

Feb 1st 1969 - Newcastle at Maine Rd, it was the Saturday after we beat them in the FA Cup replay in front of 60,000+. The rain was so heavy you could barely see the opposite goal. The ref called it off just after Bobby Owen made it 1-1 a few minutes before HT.
I was there that day but have never found a record of it. Thanks lancs blue, thought I was going mad.

Seem to remember it was called off about 2-15 while I was stood outside the ground. About 50 of us walked to town and got a train to Werneth to see the second half of Oldham v Bolton.
My old fella and me were close enough to see the ground in the fog, from what I can remember and you probably cover it with going to Oldham,it was very localised and came down double quick. My dad had driven us from Ashton and the visibility was fine however it was a long time ago.

Hi it was amazing how the weather could affect the attendance, the norwich game of 8-9-65 only had 13,235 fans (abandoned half time due to flooding) when it was replayed there were 34.091 .ps i still have my dads program from the abandoned game

We reckon we’re a hardcore bunch...always turning up ....I’d like to see us do that on a wet Wednesday night in September, shame it weren’t against Stoke ;)

Abandoned games - I did a full list in my 2006 Manchester City The Complete Record. The full details are in there, but here's the year and the game:

1895 - Burslem Port Vale (H)
1895 - Burslem Port Vale (A)
1898 - Grimsby (A)
1901 - Stoke (A)
1902 - Preston (A)
1902 - Barnsley (H)
1903 - Small Heath (H)
1913 - Sunderland (H)
1921 - Everton (H)
1936 - Brentford (H)
1956 - Blackpool (H)
1958 - Birmingham (H)
1960 - MUFC (H)
1961 - Luton (A)
1962 - Aston Villa (A)
1965 - Norwich (H)
1969 - Newcastle (H)
1974 - MUFC (A) - though the result was allowed to stand!
1994 - Ipswich (H)
2000 - Ipswich (H)

Hope this helps. As for postponed games, nowhere do we have a definitive list, so I'd be particularly interested if people can add to that. Don't forget though that most times City or their planned League opponents have progressed to 5th round of FA Cup (rules varied, so not every time) then the League game would be postponed. Maybe we should stick with a list of weather (or other unforeseen issues) caused a postponement?
Postponed game - a friendly (possibly early 70's?) At home to Gornik Zabrze - off due to fog iirc - any others recall this?

My dad and I went to see City play Middlesbrough in November 1963. Before we got to Maine Road we were told that the game was postponed because of the fog which had become much worse since we'd left home.

In those days fog was a regular occurrence in November because of the air pollution in Manchester.

The rearranged game was eventually played the following March and City won 1-0.
