Academy Players introduced to First Team 2015/16

If we were to give Barker or Roberts a go on the right either of them are welcome to take Navas' place in the squad as far as I'm concerned - although, i know my opinion on Navas isn't shared by many.

I don't mind Navas - but also don't think he's set the world alight since his move (can't believe he's in his third season already!), so I was hoping that he'd be rotated with Roberts on the right wing, and maybe Barker in the cup games?

If we aren't going to use these promising academy players, I hope they get a loan to a decent club - at least a Championship club. Don't see the point in them going any lower than Championship. Even Scottish Premier League is a waste of time (apart from maybe Celtic, but even there loan players have mixed fortunes)!

True.

But both Yaya and Carlos were established players when they joined us and therefore had more influence in choosing which Squad Number they took.

Question is will Lopes get a decent Squad number? If he keeps 64 it does suggest he'll won't be in first team squad. Possibly out on loan again.

Would like to see him take 17.

I'm far more excited about us bringing youth thorough in to the first team than I am about signing established stars.

There is something special about nurturing players who go on to represent you at the highest level. It will also show great young players around the world that if you are good enough you will get a shot. The byproduct is that the media will have to accept that we are both successful and developmental.

Perhaps with our limited major moves in the transfer market, outside of two excellent Homegrown signings, the club has decided this is the year to see what fruits the Academy tree is bearing? I'm sure we will be right up there even without any more big signings. At a pinch I'd take 4th place in return for the emergence of three exciting HG Academy players with some solid Premier League experience under their belts.

Not that I'd turn my nose up at Pogba etc.

Can't really read into squad numbers too much - Yaya is 42, and Tevez was 32!

You can in this regard. Roberts is considered a first team player based on that number. Academy players are all in the mid 50s and up. Doesn't mean he won't play some games for them though. They use a separate number when they're actually playing in EDS games anyway.

Denayer, Iheanacho and Lopes are all pretty certain to have varying degrees of involvement with the first team this season, with I suspect Denayer the most active. We have other prospects that look interesting, however I believe the likes of Barker, Roberts, Manu Garcia etc will need to wait a while for their opportunities. I suspect the first 2, and possibly even Garcia, will spend time out on loan this season, in order to get them some legitimate first team action. Certainly for Barker and Roberts there's little to be gained by a season of EDS football.
