Accidentally formatted an SD card - how can I recover photo's?

I've got a micro SD card
It had a few gb of audio files on it now it's showing up as being empty and I get 'disk error' when I put it in my MP3 player I've tried several MP3 players and had it in my PC and laptop with an adaptor . Nothing. I know it's not the equipment as other SD cards work fine
I've not formatted it
How reliable are the programs that you can purchase to recover data ?

Have you looked at Damo,s suggestion on page 1? I've not tried it myself and it is 4 years old now mind.No just a message saying it must be formatted
