Actors spotted in smaller/uncredited roles

Steven Spielberg in JAWS.

'You may have guessed it by now, but the voice on the radio is none other than Mr. Spielberg. Besides his audio cameo in Jaws, Spielberg has cameoed in several movies credited to his fellow directors. He may have passed you by in Gremlins when he drove past the camera off focus'.

Not quite in line with the title but it reminds me of the story behind the famous motorbike chase scene in “The Great Escape”

Steve McQueen was a big motorbike fan and even convinced them to change the scene to a bike chase. The original idea was for it to be a car chase.

They filmed the scene of the chase in two parts. Firstly McQueen’s character trying to get away. And then the Germans chasing him. He loved filming his part that much that he put on a German uniform and was then filmed as one of the chasers.

So in the film he is actually chasing himself.

One for film bores (like me), Ford’s character’s name is Colonel Lucas which is most likely a reference to the film’s original intended director, George Lucas. Ford gets to say, “Terminate. With extreme prejudice” in reference to maverick officer, Kurtz.
Interesting fact about Fords role in Apocalypse Now. He was indeed named after George Lucas as him a Francis Ford Coppola are very good friends.

Lucas recommended him to Coppola after Lucas directed him in American Graffiti. Filming of Apocalypse Now starting in March 1976 and Ford's scene was one of first to be shot. Ford went off to film Star Wars 6 months later. Star Wars was released in 1977 but due to production issues Apocalypse Now wasn't released until 1979.

Audiences was confused to see Ford in such a small role when by then he was a global superstar!!
