Lucas recommended him to Coppola after Lucas directed him in American Graffiti. Filming of Apocalypse Now starting in March 1976 and Ford's scene was one of first to be shot. Ford went off to film Star Wars 6 months later. Star Wars was released in 1977 but due to production issues Apocalypse Now wasn't released until 1979.

Audiences was confused to see Ford in such a small role when by then he was a global superstar!!

Also a good Ford fact the scar on his chin which we see been caused by a whip in the young Indiana jones chronicles was caused by a carpentery accident in real life which is what Ford used to do before he made it big.

The Thin Red Line is the worst for that. All of these megastars desperate to work with Terrence Malick and the studio presumably wanting them in the film, but he just wants some unknown lead. So you end up with weird stuff like George Clooney just showing up for a random scene.

Did you take my advice and rewatch the series and listening to the podcast after each episode?? It adds a lot and they were able to get some really great interviews. They got everybody which says a lot about them that they got everyone to come on!!

The bloke who plays the DJ near the end of Paul Calf’s Video Diary (Have ya got Into the Valley by The Skids? Musclebound, Spandau Ballet?), is Vincent Regan, who’s been in loads of stuff since, but best-known as a gladiatorial beefcake-type in Troy and 300.

I’ve listened up to episode 22 of the podcast. Full of absolute gems and unbelievable insights. I’ve only recently just done the full six series again so not rewatched each episode with the podcast.

Wonder what the beef with De Niro is about?!?

One of my favourite films. They filmed many more scenes though, when Clooney found out only one scene was used, he asked to be cut out, but wasnt.
Many actors were though including Viggo Mortensen, Martin Sheen, Mickey Rourke, Gary Oldman, Jason Patric, Bill Pullman and a Billy Bob Thornton voiceover. They are all listed in the thank you section of the credits
