He does a few things very well:
1) Comes in off the right wing and bends the ball into the far corner with his left peg
2) Tricks the full back into thinking he is coming inside and takes him outside and gets a semi-decent cross in with his right foot
3) Likes to clip the ball between the TWO defenders if a second player comes over to double him up. Often gets a free kick out of this maneuver if he does not get through the hole
4) Make the run across and through the back line for the penetrating pass from midfield (Scored a few like this for City and England)
End of!
The things he does NOT do as well as a 25 year old "international" should:
1) Play more than 30 minutes
2) Defend and support his full back (although this improved DRAMATICALLY late in the season)
3) Deliver (as in cross or play) the ball to where it is needed WHEN it is needed, because the strikers have to time their runs BASED ON THEIR EXPECTATION of when the ball is coming in and he does not seem to READ THE GAME as well as he should be able to do.
He has ONE MORE SEASON, at most, to impress at City or he will be moved on, and will WANT TO LEAVE....maybe even in January, although that might depend on Europe. He is too one-dimensional to be given the leeway to not perform at the top of his game at every opportunity.
He was not expensive and we will get at least our money back on him.....and he will quickly realize he should have done more when he had the chance at City.
I hope he spends the summer wisely (á la Ireland's pre-seaon regime) and comes back a stronger, fitter and better player, because he COULD be an excellent player.
